To change the shims do I need the tool?

I am gonna do the 60k, and I was wondering do I need the tool to change the shims or is there any other way besides taking off the cams.? Thanks

You will need the tappet compressor, the tappet holder and an assortment of shim thicknesses in addition to the usual tools to disassemble the intake and valve covers in order to properly perform the valve gap adjustment. If you send me a personal email ([email protected]), I will send you my valve gapping procedure that will provide a detailed, step-by-step walk through the process.

it looks to me the tappet holder is just a pin spanner... correct? any one have pics of the tool kit? i may order the tools from the snap on guy tomorrow.

You could actually get a way with using a small thin flat-head screwdriver as a tappet holder. I would recommend against it, but it can be done if you are in a pinch. Otherwise, get the tools.
