My car gets around good in the snow, but when it comes to highway speeds with rain or a bit of snow/ice it has a tendency to fishtail. Not going sideways, but little motions back and forth. Makes driving in those conditions a little nerve wracking. Anyone have any suggestions for a good all year round tire?

how's your suspension? that sounds more of a trailing link or shock issue rather than tires. Do you have excessive body roll?

I had this same issue, turned out my rear tie rods were shot and barely holding on. Do a shake test of your rear tires and see if that might be your problem.

Yep, the Conti's kick complete ass. I have them on my SHO, and when my Focus needs tires...it will get the same.
I will put it up on the lift this weekend and take a look!

DWS06 lover here! If you are running stock rims, go with 255/45/20’s.

I've never had the DWS06 like the other folks but I had the General G-Max AS-02, BFGs g-Force Comp 2 AS, Firestone Firehawk GT Pursuit on work ride, and now I'm back with the G-Max AS-05. They have all been great tires... for my piece of the southeastern US: decent prices, good tread wear, good dry/wet traction, no issues on slight snow/ice, and no issues cornering. The one downside I had was that the Comp 2s were quite loud over most road surfaces at nearly all speeds.
Looking at grabbing some tires here within the next few days as the snow has started up in Cleveland. What’s the benefit of the 255 vs stock 245? Also would save a good few hundred AND garage space just grabbing these instead of 18” wheels & winter tires. Would anyone be able to recommend these as year round dailies for more northern states instead of switching to dedicated winters?

255 vs 245 is 10mm of width so better grip patch- although narrower tires might be a little better in soft pack snow and wider with good sipe is probably better in harder compact snow. Just get the best tire that makes $ sense. The continentals are a good tire. I'd have to look at the compound rating but you could get away with those with awd. If money is not a huge issue I would get a set of winter tires. All the performance type tires I buy last way shorter than the stated mileage rating.

The main benefit between the two sizes is also price. For whatever reason, 255 is typically cheaper than 245 and since it's a little wider, it also rides a little smoother, at least in my experience. The DWS06 is one of the best all-season winter tires short of going to a full fledged winter tire. Make no mistake, a winter tire is still better than the best all-season tire.
Per your avatar, are you running 19's? Reason being is I suggested 255/45/20 for the stock 20" rims because the factory size is 245/45/20. I believe the 19" rims are already sized at 255/45/19.
Just got the DWS06s (255/45/20) put on a few days ago and I just want to say thanks to all you guys as so far they've been amazing. Coincidentally I had to work late the other night and a beautiful snow/freezing rain mixture decided to come down and I almost want to say it was fun getting home, absolutely zero slipping on turning and braking. If I had the old stock primacy mxv4s on it would of been a white knuckle 4 wheel slip n slide home. Thank you all for your input!

I had a bad experience with the DWS06! I talked to several mangers at tire stores and the best tire is actually a very similar tire but much better for a big, heavy, AWD sport sedan - it's the Continental Control Contact Sport. People put these on cars like Audi S6/S8, Merc E63S 4-matic, BMW M5, etc. I love them!

I do remember in the early life of the DWS06, they had some issues. In the last two + years I've had mine, 0 complaints. Wearing very well for my driving style, great traction and smooth/quiet ride.
I can relate though in poor experiences. I had a set of 255/45/20 Sumitomo HTR A/S P02 that I installed right after buying my car and in 9K miles, they had to be replaced (wore down). Installed the DWS06 and after about 25K miles (changed nothing from previous), they still have 15/20K left according to Discount Tire. On my Explorer, I had a set of Firestone Destination A/T's installed and I took it back 8 times in 7 months to be balanced. They would literally shake starting at 45 mph... The 8th time, they decided to road force balance them and turns out I had two bad tires. They swapped those and 3 months later, my 9th visit was because all 4 tires had sidewall cracking. They then gave me a new set of Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2's for free that I turned around and sold.
