To keep family harmony, the new '95 ATX is going to be the family cruiser, and stay basically stock. I get to play with the '90, which is faster anyway. So, for the best ride and lowest noise factor, while keeping at least an H or better V rating, and aftermarket 16" wheels, what is a good cruiser tire? Probably 225-55-16, looking potentially at Bridgestone RE950s. Anyone with experience, or other choices for this application?

The RE950 should be a good tire. I highly recommend the RE730 for dry and wet weather traction. Here is the search by size list from Tire Rack for the 225/55-16 size from HR rating and above. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/SearchTires.jsp
I do not recommend using an H-rated tire on the SHO. V-rated or higher for your safety and performance.

I just put the BF Goodrich g force TA KDWS on mine and really like them so far. They are W rated and are like 109 a tire for 225/55/16

I drove my SHO in a two day school in Loudin, NH on a set of RE950's (slicers)...and I would have to say that those tires have SUBSTANTIAL sidewall flex--I wore the corners of the tires down to the letter "P" in Potenza because I'm sure they were rolling over and the SHO is heavy....so depending on your typical style of driving-keep that sidewall flex in mind. (I think they are "H" rated.) They are a good all around tire--but then again, it didn't snow much here in NY this past winter for me to use try snow. I HAD a set of RE730's on my Integra and I have to agree with SDPATT--730's are EXCELLENT (perf/price) for dry and wet applications--they suck in snow however. When these RE950's wear out I will perhaps seek a set of RE730's again in the SHO size.
I also just purchased a set of Potenza S0-3 Pole Positions for my Sentra SE-R -- it's been too cool to really see them stick, but I will find out this summer.
I am a Bridgestone fan and hope this helps. I don't think there is a better rain tire IMO. (If Formula 1 uses Bridgestone, why can't I???) Good luck.

I work in the tire business, One good tire to consider would be the Yokamaha YK420s. They are avaiable in V or H speed rattings. They are also a great all season tire, low noise, great grip and have a nice look too. Plus they go for about 70 bucks a tire.
Sorry, I do not have much information on the Bridgestone RE950s, or any Bridgestone/Firestone products.

I dont hot rod my 93, got Yokohama AVSdb 225-60-16, the db stands for low noise; very quite, great in wet, as good or better than Aqua Tred, or dry,as you can see by looking at the tread, very safe, good mileage, good ride with the 60 series, excellent braking.
by the way, I had them siped, which puts hundreds of slits across the tire to improve braking, tire life, etc. Got 'em at Discount Tire, had 'em balanced with the new hi tech balancer there.
Dave in Seattle, where wet performance is important!

Thanks guys, Dave, looks like you and I are the only guys looking for cruiser tires. I guess I couldn't expect anything else from the boy racers on the SHO forum ;-) I heard about the Yoko AVSdb series from someone else; nice to hear another positive recommendation. Although, it only rains once a year here, and it already did that the other night. So wet performance isn't a big deal. Also I had recommended the Bridgestone Turanza series, so a couple to check out.

The only bad thing I've heard about the Yokohamas is that they wear out quickly. Like I said before, check out the BF Goodrich KDWS. They are a very nice tire.

I have to agree, and if 93SHO ever comes around he'll rave about these tires too. The KDWS are great, he uses tham for autoX and I can vouch for their handling. They look cool, wear well, and work in all seasons!

Yeah, the KDWS are VERY sweet tires. I guess BFG used a pretty hard, but elastic compound, and that is how the tires develop so much grip without wearing. The tires are livable in the snow, and pretty nice in the rain. Like AutoSHO said, I've autocrossed on them and they work extremely well.
