Hey all,
I'm looking at getting new tires and wanted to know if anyone had any opinions or experience with THESE tires, and more importantly, if the 225/55 HR17 size is a decent fit with my '93 ATX with Tokicos and Eibachs.

I'm currently running Yokohama Avid H4's in 235/45 HR17 size, and I'd like to get back to a closer to OEM size for performance and fuel economy, and yes, cost is a huge driving factor right now.

The tread pattern of the Sumitomos remind me of my old Bridgestone Potenza RE910s, which I was fairly happy with.

I must have All-Season performance, as the SHO is my daily driver, and I am now looking out my window & watching the snow fall. :frown:

Cost is a huge factor right now, and these Sumitomos are about as cheap (price-wise) as I've found.

With the research I've done, it looks as though they will physically fit just fine, but my speedo will read 1.3 MPH slow. Not a big deal to me really, as my speedo reads 1.9 MPH too fast right now with the smaller diameter Yokohamas.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is what I see:

215/60-16 (OEM) measurements:
Sidewall= 5.1"
Radius= 13.1"
Diameter= 26.2"
Circumference= 82.2"
Revolutions per mile= 771.0

225/55-17 measurements:
Sidewall= 4.9"
Radius= 13.4"
Diameter= 26.7"
Circumference= 84.0"
Revolutions per mile= 754.0

Am I reading all this right? Seems to me they'd work out just about right. Opinions welcomed, the sooner, the better!

Later!
:burn_out:

For reference:

235/45 17 = 25.3" dia (3.5% fast)
245/45 17 = 25.7" dia (1.9% fast)
225/55 17 = 26.7" dia (1.9% slow)
225/55 16 = 25.7" dia (1.9% fast)
215/60 16 = 26.2" dia (ideal)

For performance, obviously you would want to run the shortest, widest possible tire - for fuel economy, the opposite is exactly true.

I would recommend a 225/50 17 - 25.9" dia (1.1% fast)
Ideal would be a 235/50 17, but the only tires listed are $200+. That would be a 26.25" diameter, basically perfect.
