My mods will, and if I'm competitive, I will be honest about my mods.

My concern with the RS3 is the softer compound, and they should heat up faster. The 615(iirc) azenis would get greasy and accelerate wear on a track, due to the soft compound(and being falken naturally)

And otherwise completely agree with you on setup and the life of star specs, I easily had 60-75 autox runs(alot at grissom+75% of time sprayed off), close to 150 drag passes, and between 20-25k miles on the set on the redline(which weighed 2990) So its close to the weight of sho's.

I ran both RS2s and 615s on the LGT. 3518 #s curb weight, just like a SHO. RS2s had 3 track days, plus 6K miles to/from Seattle. Plus they won King of the Hill for me at the drags. Grattan was a very rough track (although I liked it a lot!) and it was tough on tires. Probably had a total of 8K miles before I pulled 'em off.

Then tried the 615s. I did 3-4 track days(NH, Waterford, Gingerman), then Tom used 'em for one at Autobahn (they were at the wear bars at that point when he bought the car).

The do just fine. And these were both 215/45/17s.

If you're dead set on staying with Slicers, you're going to want to go to a 225/50/16 for autocross. IMO, with only driving 4,000 miles a year, you would be best with the RS-3 or Star Specs.

I agree. Although I got <10K miles on the RS2s & the 615s, they were each on the car for near 3 years, as the car didn't get driven much.

Since I use the white '89 for 1K round-trips for work, I got the evo V12s.

Honestly, the evo V12s sacrifice little (relatively speaking) over the RS tires. The evo V12s were the best tires I've ever run on a SHO. OTOH, I never had 17x7.5" wheels on my other SHOs, either.

Perhaps in normal street driving. I absolutely promise, 100%, without a doubt that the running the V12 against the RS-3 would result in a absolute slaughter in terms of how much the RS-3 would out run the V12 on the Auto-X course. Nothing against the V12, I'm actually going to buy a set for the wifes car....but that is comparing apples to oranges.

Are these tires gonna be used for DD also, meaing, gonna be drivin in teh rain. Weahter its your way home from work or autoXrossign in the rain.

I like the KDW v.2 for a DD and possible track days.
Ive been using these tires for 6+ years and LOVE them. More than enuf grip for my Duratec Taurus, probably good enuf for SHOs also. And are Xcllent in thr rain, which i drive about 50 miles a day rain or shine, when i use that car. I have a honda also for better gas MPG, but im 2 weeks away from buying new wheels and tires for that and im getting the BFGs KDW v.2 for them also.

Now if your talking NO rain will see these tires, than im positive their are better options than the KDW, im assuming your talking about the v.2 model fo the tire, with the flamey pattern design.
And im soory but Id have a HARD damn time putting Hankoks on my car, they sound like a cheesy walmart tire.
And in that tire comparision where the hankok did better, it was obvioulsy better casue it was a wider tire, i dont know if they accounted for that in the comparision.

You are out of your mind and really don't have a clue if you think Hankooks are some "cheezy walmart brand". The KDW's are not even a competitive tire anymore, or even in the same leauge as HANKOOK RS-3's or Direzza Star Specs.

Yep, Hankook put out great products. And at a great price.

Dave, earlier you mentioned the Exalto PE2. I had a set on the LGT back in '06 when I ran at Memphis Motorsports. I was quite happy with them, especially for being Michelins. I got them for $100 apiece on a closeout deal. I didn't get them again because of their price, I got the RS2s for about $40/tire less than the PE2s, and the RS2s were MUCH better.

FWIW, there was a GT 500 running at Lapeer yesterday with the new Nitto Invo tires. He had a coupla 12-flats, then cranked off a coupla 11.8x times. These are the new Nitto summer tire, and might be worth a look. Although IIRC the size choices were limited the last I looked, might have changed.
