This is another thread I am hoping can become a sticky. I know lots of you SHO owners just buy replacement tires, because lack of money or the fact that you don't drive the car all that hard. But for the people who do, tires make a HUGE diffrence. And I was just wondering if everyone could say the diffrent kind of tires they have had, the place they got them, what kinds of weather there were good/bad in, and any other misc things. It'd be best if everyone just listed tires and didn't disagree with others, if you have had diffrent expirence with the tires when you owned them just list that you owned them and explain what occured when you had them, it'll keep the thread less cluttered:thumb:

I have Falken Azenis for my SHO that I used for one autocross. They were an amazing upgrade from stock, and can be had fairly cheap from Discount Tire Direct. I have also heard very good things about Toyo Proxes T1S', and I plan on trying a set on my Miata in the spring.

I have yokohama A55OH. And they hold fairly well in the turns, but they hold even better at 100+. i was thinking about switching the fronts to BFG's G-Force T/A KDWS. But not to sure yet. I might switch back to the Yokohama Y2KO. They seem to hold as well as the A55OH's.

Yes, Toyo's T1S all the way, best high performance I ever used, but, don't expect to get more than 15-20K from them.

I have owned 2 sets of Bridgestones with VERY good results as far as grip and wear. I am currently running a set of Falken FK-451s and they to me have a better grip than the Bridgestone RE730s did, but we shall see how long they last...so far so good... :thumb:

Bridgestone RE-730s – Very good tire, good on the track. (no longer produced, shown to compare against RE-750s)

Bridgestone RE-750s – Pretty good, but I’m not sure they are as good as the RE-730s they replaced. Might be slightly greasy on the track. Some noise also.

Dunlop Sport SP 5000's – Tried these on the Mustang after a set of RE-730s. Bad, bad, bad compared to the RE s, almost took them back. However, a fellow SHO fanatic that I know has them on his ’91 and likes them.

Michelin Pilot’s – no wet traction, didn’t like ‘em.

Goodyear GA’s – (were on the MTX ’95 when I got it) No wet or dry traction, poor cornering. At least they wore out fast so I could buy something else.

Bridgestone RE-950s, H rated – On the ATX. Good tires, but I have not pushed them much. Quiet, seem to be wearing well.

Jeremey, I looked up the Falkens, that's a nice price compared to the Bridgestones.

For street tires, I like Nitto. Heard lots of great reviews of the Azenis Sport.
For track tires on a budget, I love my Kuhmos Ecsta V700s(Victoracers are better still, but not availible in my perfered size). Hoosiers are better, but you pay for it. Once the Kuhmos are done, I am thinking about trying the new Avon Tech R.

O'm looking into the Yokohama ES100's, Falken GR Beta FK-451's or Ziex ZE 512, Kumho Ecsta supra 712's, or Hankook K106. Out of these, which do you all think I'll have best grip with in dry/wet conditions? Keep in mind I will drive this car in the snow but I can deal with Poor traction as long as I can move. I would prefer decent wear and great handling in dry. What do ya think?

Mounted on stock slicers:
BFG CompT/A 225/55ZR-16 I liked them lasted 25K
Dunlop SP8000 225/50ZR-16 Less noisy than the BFG and sticked as well. Lasted 25K
Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 225/55ZW-16 Did not stick as well in the dry as the SP8000, but was better in the wet.

Mounted on OZ 17X8:
Yokohama AVS ES100 235/45WR-17 I love them. Turn in is immediate. Sticks fantastic. However I can't attribute it all to the tires, because the wheels are different. The tires are new.

FWIW, I've got the Zexius tires from Les Schwab, which are the same thing as Falken Ziex 512s, as far as I know. I've been fairly impressed with them, especially compared to the lame 640 treadwear continentals that came with my 92. Now I just have to get them from the Taurus wagon to the SHO... ;)

Yokohama AVS-I (no longer made) Great dry tire, nice and sticky. Not too bad in the rain and scary in the snow.

Bridgestone Potenza RE-750 A bit noisy but a really good summer tire, great dry traction and good wet traction. Not good for snow though, I got stuck twice with what little snow we got here last year.

Bridgestone Potenza G-009 I just got these so I cannot make a great review yet but so far the traction is not bad for an all season tire. They are not as sticky as the RE-750s but they do perform well enough. Rain traction seems a bit better. I bought these more as a winter tire than a performance tire.

OH you didn't know
Mounted on 18" wheels:
Dunlop sport w-10---did not like

Yokohama AVS Db2--great tire, excellent dry traction, did well in rain, summer only
Mounted on slicers:
Hankook snow tires(no studs)--noisy but get the job done.

Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice snows---new this season, but I think I will like them.

I have had good customer feedback on the Yokohama ES100, Nitto NT555,and BF Goodrich KDWS.

I run Dunlop SP Sport A2's, and they are an excellent all season tire. The only problem I have with them is treadwear... the car goes through those soft tires somewhat quickly. (~15k-20k miles)

Yokohama AVID V4 - 225/55/16 on slicer. Great all season tire with very adequate handling capabilities. Never tracked but offers more than enough for the occasional spirited drive. Have about 25k on them and showing very little wear. I've been more than pleased to this point. :thumb:
