Hello People,

For all you New Englanders outthere, you know we got slammed with snow just recently. Today has been the 1st day I could drive and its still hairy. I need recommemdations of an all season tire..This my SHO's first real winter, and with balding shoes, its not so good. Whats your recommendations? Dont want to go blind into the store.

Thanks!

Are you looking for something to use all summer too?

On my 91 MTX, I am running Continental ContiTouring Contact AS and I am happy with them thus far...great tread wear, good traction and quiet...

Try www.tirerack.com They have descriptions and ratings from people who have bought the tires, as well as some of the bst prices that I have seen.

Im also going to throw this into the "SHO Generation I & II Performance Upgrades - Wheels, Tires, Interior, Body, and Cosmetic Mods" forum

Thats the 2 tires I've been looking at. Its going to be a 12 month time (all seasons) I checked out tire rack before, and just needed some advice/tips to deal my decision. Thanks.

don't get regular all seasons, IMO they suck in all conditions. Just buy a nice set of winters and switch to summers (Dunlop SP Sport 5000 are pretty awesome thumb ) in the summer.

If you don't want to switch or are set on getting all seasons, there is only one tire for you... the Nokkian Hakapallita H2(?). It is the only tire government rated for dry, wet, and snow. They are damn expensive and they might not make them for the stock 16' slicers, but I highly reccomend them. My dad's hooked up PT Cruiser had them on a set of A.R. Trque Thrust II's and it went like a champ in all conditions, even though it was lowered.

But I can't afford them. Nor can I afford the reccomended Blizzaks or Dunlop m2/m3's. headbang

Is it true I need H speed (131mph) or better for the SHO? I do drive fast, and oftentimes on the highway. But most snow tires are really soft anyways, which increases speed ratings.

Am I way off track here, or do I need to stop whining and make some more money for good snows?

Can anyone reccommend a cheaper, but well-performing snow tire for the stock 16" slicers?

i have to disagree with you on that Solidstate. The Continental ContiTouring AS's are the worst tires i've ever owned. For 1 they are 118mph rated. They are hella loud when you push em a little and the suck in the rain. If your going with an all seasoner i'd go with the Continetal ContiExtreme Contacts. They look lke an awesome tire and i'v heard nothing but god from them

I love my Potenza RE950's...Just wish they were a little more low profile. Great in the rain/dry traction...not sure on the snow yet...

if you guys are looking for some winter tires, go to a local tire place - not a brand name store, but the local place. I got 4 5k mile Blizzaks, mounted and out the door for $120 you can't get that deal anywhere else. Right about now should be a good time to go too with the snow, people would have changed off tires that they didn't like.

Check em out - used tires are the best way to get out of a situation cheap.

I love my contiextremes. They are far better handling than the ****** firestones that were on it before it, and i cant even hear them (unles they are breaking loose that is). They worked as good as i could expect on dry and wet from a 78 dollar tire, the SHO has been sitting for a month or two so i havent used them in snow, so i couldnt tell you.

You realize that once the spongy tread of a Blizzak wears down you are left with hard tire tread that isn't nearly as good in the snow. 5000 miles on those used blizzaks? I can't say with certaintly because I've never run blizzaks personally (or any snow tires for that matter) but I would guess that the snow worthy tread on those tires might have worn off already. IMHO, why cheap out on snow tires? Shoot, borrow the money if you have to. Tires are one of those things that it's good not to cheap out on.

Wow, i paid twice what you did for some used 5,000 mile Blizzaks! But i was still amazed at how well they perform in the snow, and they still have gobs of tread left! I would recommend them to anyone!

the Blizzaks have wear indicators, different from your ordinary tire. on the Blizzaks i had for my truck, the indicator had 5 steps. at the last step, it was like...less than 1/8" tread, replacement was recommended. snow tires will last you a long time, as long as theyre used for what their intentions are...driving on snow. the guys at the tire shop gave me some insight about the Blizzaks and driving on solid pavement (asphalt, concrete). for every revolution you drive on solid pavement, equates to 5 revolutions driven on snow.

as for all season tires or performance tires, i had my eye on thr Firehawk SZ50s...but now i just may go with either the Potenza RE750 or the RE950...cant make up my mind yet.
