Most people think I'm nuts but I run the max pressure the tire is rated for in the front and 4-6 lbs less in the rear. Been doing this for years on every kind of tire I've owned on every kind of car I've owned.

Check the sidewall, it will say the max pressure rating. That is where you will get the best mileage and tire wear. A little less in the rear is OK since the rear end is lighter than the front. You want to lower the pressure in the fronts a bit for drag racing though.

The max pressure on the sidewall is 44psi. The dealer had them set at 40. There is quite a bit of difference in some of your answers. It is 40 or 28?

WHY oh why do so many people misunderstand tire pressures? Especially YOU people because you own a SHO! Now listen and listen good. Tire pressure 101. You (meaning you) are supposed to put the pressure of your tires according to your manual. On my 89 it was 35 psi on all fours. The sidewall info. tells you the max (meaning you shouldn't inflate over this) pressure of that particular tire. You will NOT get the best wear from this max pressure! and it'll wear considerably faster if you inflate to max. Now~~~~~~~that being said, when you buy different tires then it could be beneficial at times to inflate differently------at autocrosses/drags/or when loaded up with people/baggage. You can and usually do get better steering response with higher inflated tires but you can also go sliding off the road easier because of this. A few pounds difference (than manual recommends) is the most you should do. tool
