Went to the dealer today and he wasn't sure whether the 95 has a belt or a chain. He said the catalog lists labor costs for both a chain and a belt for the 95. This is probably a really stupid question... More specifically, what sort of labor costs am I looking into, to change the timing belt on my 95. It has a little over 101k on it now... Sheeesh, where does the time go? Hehehe

Also... I have a question about the C&L 73mm MAF. Anybody had any luck with it? Worth $140, they're all over E-bay, didn't know if I should throw one on, if it's gonna improve my acceleration. I need a mod that's gonna make me smile thumb

Thanks guys and girls.

SHO has a timing belt...gonna pay some cash to get that **** changed. DIY if you can

Stick w/stock airbox...if you do get a larger bore MAF, get the correct sample tube. Do some research on MAFs using the search function lacated right under the post topic/reply icon. Good luck.

You don't want to pay Stealership rates for this job. You'r better finding a guy that does a lot of SHO work. Look up Fred Hurder at 'http://members.cox.net/neshospecialists/'. Don't know how far that is from you, but it'll be better work and likely cheaper.

Re. the C&L 73MM MAF, I wouldn't bother. Most don't have success with them. I'd recomend the 75MM ProM MAF from Mike Courier. It's calibrated to the SHO computer and doesn't cost much more ($175). Reach him at [email protected]. He will ask you a bunch of questions about your car that will be used to customize the MAF.

Dealer book labor for just the timing belt replacement is 2.0 hours. It's the belt you want to replace, not the chains. The SHO does use timing chains on the rear ends of the cams, but there is not a regular maintenance requirement for them.

The fact that your dealer doesn't know what to change would make me very skeptical about trusting them to work on the car.

FWIW, at just over 100K, you're car is now due for it's first '60K' maintenance service (ATX SHO's specify the service interval at 100K, but the service is still referred to as the '60K'). You can search the forum, SHO Times, or Fred Hurder's site http://www.neshospecialists.com for a better understanding of what the various 60K maintenance services entail, and you can decide how much you want to do. IIWM, I'd at least consider replacing the CPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor) and the front main seal (a little over $50 in parts for a knowledgeable consumer) at the same time as the timing belt.

If you want to talk about your New England area options for SHO service, shoot me a PM or an email and I can give you some options, recommendations, etc.

Also, take Kurt's advice and buy the 75mm Pro-M over the C&L MAF. The guy who sells them is from NH and very good to deal with! :)

Thanks for the replys. I sent Fred an E-mail. I believe I've met him before. We raced over at Epping one summer night with Eric Steidinger (sp?) and Erik Trembley (sorry guys for hacking up your names). There were others there too.

The guy at the counter said at least 3 hours for labor on the timing belt... SHEEEESH! Then the fact that he wasn't sure whether it had chains or belts, kinda scared me. I'd be willing to make a trip to Mass to get it done right.

You can look at the AutoZone procedures in the topic at the top of this section for a good idea of what it takes to replace the timing belt. You can get the Gates T248 timing belt from RockAuto.com for only $37.79. No need to pay the dealership markup. See this topic for a quick look at the normal parts replaced during the top and front end 60K services.
