Dayco?
Gates?
Cloyes?
Goodyear?
ACDelco?
DNJ?

Anyone had any particular experiences with certain belts? I'm talking about things like noise, strange wearing, lack of timing marks, etc. Or are they all basically the same besides the cost? :thankyou:

For me , a timing belt is a timing belt , I always bought the cheapest stuff.

You will prolly scrap the car before it goes bad again.

I have never seen a broken timing belt on a SHO motor, of any brand, and I've seen 180k mile engines that I know have never had the timing belt changed, because the owners were like "what is a timing belt?"

Yep. There are more issues with the tensioner stud breaking than the belt.

As far as belts are concerned, use the one with the marks on it. Much easier.

I trust Gates and Dayco. Not to say that others are bad; these two are just the two brands I have used; have had no issues with either.

They might not break, but the teeth can be stripped clean. Here's what happened to one of mine:

The result is the same: No Go SHO.

teeth stripped due to being loose from a bad tensioner, or other reason?

I'm not sure of the reason. I only had my SHO for a few months when it happened. I was revving it good, about to hit 7K on the tach, when everything just shut down. It took me a few days of diagnosis to figure out it was a problem with the timing belt.

The silver lining is that it gave me a great reason to do a full front 60K service...

I can't remember what brand I got from RCM, but I snapped it in 6k miles... It was a cheap one, I'm sure.

How many miles have you put on that car? The belt was brand new when you bought it.

It's up to around 150k now, but the tensioner went bad on it so while I'm in there I figured I might as well change it out considering it's been slapping around for quite some time. I'll probably be checking a couple things while I can, I don't want to be that deep in the engine again for a while, if I can help it.
