thanks to every one who offered advice on my crank issue. i finally found the 14x1.5 tap at a local industrial hardware supply house. only took me 3 hours this morning to find it!! the snap-on guy did not even have one!! oh well iam now the proud owner of a tap that works on sho cranks!! hope i will never have to use it again. the only "issue" i have now is a ticking sound that is emitting from the belt areas, can you make the accesory belts too tight?? or the timing belt?? for the timing belt, i turned the crank with the tensioner bolt loose, then tightned it up, should i have made it tighter?? and it is exciting when the thermostat opens up and you have to add about a billion gallons of 50/50, well it seems like it at the time. and on the crank bolt, how tight should it be? i think i got it fairly tight and used blue loctite on it. once again thanks to everyone who spent time looking up part numbers, getting phone numbers, and just spending time reading my post and offering advice, it all helped.

Yes any kind of belt can be put on too tight and the same in reverse, too loose.

Do you get a groaning noise with the accersories? And I believe the crank bolt has to be about 150-200ft-lbs of torque.

You had better check my response to the current topic here for the correct method to set the tension of the 3.0L's timing belt.
