As much as I enjoy my 96' SHO I think it maybe time to move on. I was hoping to save this car as a toy but I lately I have been driving 500+ miles weekly. I really need a car that gets better gas mileage and hate racking up all the miles...just turned 136K.

What to do? Car dealer probably will not give me crap for this car. What's the market like for these cars?

Welded cams.
New tranny w/transgo shift kit.
New Kumgo Ectsa all-season tires.
Tons of new parts.
Everything works.
ipod interface.
Good paint.
Nice interior.

As mine was approaching 200k and we were looking at some longer road trips, this came up for us too. Its not that there is anything wrong with the car, it runs very well, but if you need to depend on it, at this point parts are starting to slowly crop up as a potential problem.

If you can afford keeping 2 vehicles around, it makes a great long term backup car that will eventually do well as a rare machine and have a place in classic auto shows on sunny Sundays and such. That is what we are doing, and why I bought the Porsche. And the value of the SHO will, over time, increase. But it is an ongoing expense to some degree, even if not used. Insurance, upkeep, storage, etc. If you can, keep it. Otherwise, well, life is change.

^ This. I bought an '87 MR2 for a DD, and the bull gets fired up and driven once a weekend to make sure she stays lubricated and charged up. And to make sure it's drive-able in case of emergency.

Stephan, I like your DD style.

Yea, I love my SHO and couldn't stand to get rid of it, but needed something more reliable and a cheaper platform to mod, so I got the Mustang. The Mustang actually gets about the same mileage too LOL. I still enjoy driving the SHO from time to time, but maybe put 5K on it a year. I figure it ain't worth much to sell and it might be a future classic soon enough.

So if you can handle having 2 vehicles, I would do that, but I know it can be tough with double the insurance and registration costs, plus having room to park them, but it's worth it IMO. You just need to get an even more efficient vehicle to offset the extra running costs to save overall.

I'd put it up for 4000-4500 and see what you'll get. Receipts will help.

What's this? A SHO Kevin doesn't want to crush? Are you feeling ok? :nut:

You going to finance the next car? Smallish car payment vs better mileage is about a wash.
