I bought my 97 about 2 months ago. And from the day I bought it, it ticks when I am driving. It doesn't do it when it is parked and I rev the engine, and I only hear it when I am passing by something the reflects the sound back to me like a wall or cement median. Anyway, does this sound like it is the tranny, and if so, maybe someone else has experienced that sound and can enlighten me. Any help is appreciated.

well if you here when you pass something or driving along a wall, it might be something with the brakes or cv joints in that area my 98 clicked and i just ignored it and change the brake pads one day and i did not hear it anymore, but i still dont know what it was exactly. but i might start inspecting that area before i pay someone to take a tranny out.

Maybe you could get it on a lift with someone to run it up to speed a little, get under and try to follow the sound. I would agree with parts outside the transmission to be your noise. But I have seen all kinds of things.
