I would let the car set and NOT cut back on til the cams are welded. They could let go at the next start up. The injectors do make a similar noise, but the cams could be on their way out. Be very careful bud.

I'll say the noise are the cams getting loose!!! dont wait unti'll you get a check engine light or else because by then you'll be screwed!

Just park it; have the cams welded and forget about them, if not you'll be sorry.

If you intend on doing a valve lash adjustment get those cams welded your already there.. I would bet its a loose cam socket my 96 sounded like that and one was loose. Don't even mess around just weld them

I'll pull your front valvecover for a look for free if you bring it by my place. I mainly do this for folks just to see if the car has been welded or not, but in your case you already said it was NOT welded.
At that point, there is only a 50/50 chance of finding a loose sprocket. Most common sprocket failure in my experiences is the front exhaust cam, so there is still a good chance of seeing a potential problem.
Like I said, I'll pull the front cover for you for free - I'll do that for any V8 SHO owner just to help you guys out a bit.

Rear cover involves too much time to do that for free. Oh yeah - I'm in Lombard, Illinois.

Dont think about it and take Eric's offer; he's one of the best to take care of that welding bussiness. You're lucky to have him close. :)
