Every now and then, my car stalls when I let off the gas. Especially when making a turn. When I start it back up, has a low idle and then straightens up. Does it two to three times a week. Seems like only when car sits overnight or for a little while. On cold days, I let the engine warm up for about five to sex minutes. On warm days, two to three. Sometimes I have to put the tranny in nuetral and coast to a stop sign or traffic light and tap the gas to keep it from stalling. Any ideas? More noticeable when I loan my car to someone. frown

Maybe you have a short in a major wire that runs past the engine. It would short while accelerating (or letting off the gas) in a low gear because the engine moves it when it rotates under torque. At least this happened to me. Might be something to check out if you can't find anything else wrong like my mechanics did after $410 labor bill@! The wire was about $140. Hope this may help someone.

Haven't had too much time check anything. I forgot to say that it happens when I press in the clutch. Thanks for the tips. This weekend I'll check things out (if not working). I do have an oil leak ( I'm guessing valve cover gasket) firewall side of the engine. Timing belt new, but timing is off a little bit, after I ran a Mustang. Atleast that's what the mechanic said. How do I check the computer codes on this 89? What is the IAC? I believe my mechanic replaced this. Cost me $167.00

The IAC is the idle air control valve and it has the job of maintaining the idle speed during the situations you are describing. It looks like a D cell and C cell battery in series just on the passenger side of the split in the intake manifold (see the picture at the top of this page). If your IAC valve is clogged or failed, you will have similar problems. Shop around for them. They are not too hard to replace and only about $60.
