Definitely need a valve adjustment. I would inspect the bucket and see if it needs to be replaced. Chances are it needs it. Also make sure the cam is in good condition.

If you get a shim kit from SHO Source I can throw in a bucket if you need it.

Well your going to have to pull the cam out, check the cam real good.. also once you get the bucket out it might have messed up the head. You might even want to pull the valve spring to check all the way down for your clearance. last one that I seen do this messed up the head.

I got cams, buckets, heads and all the shims you could ever need. LMK what you need. I might have a truck running down that way this week and "might" be able to deliver.

This Is the exact same thing that happened to my v8 I threw a shim and really screwed up the bucket. I had to remove the cams to get the bucket out, and after getting the bucket out I noticed that it had made the valve hole bigger and all scrapped to crap. Save yourself alot of time and fustration, take the head off have it checked for a bent valve and also incase any dibriss fell into the valve. I did not do this and I had a bad valve and anouther had a broken chunk of the bucket jammed in it. I ended up getting a used head and having it compession checked and made sure it was not warped. Plus I had to have the cam polished back because of a nick in it. I have finally got the car put back together and driving it. Just trying to save you some time and alot of bad words.

I have the same problem with my 93 3.0. It's now a parts car.

The problem is that the valve will not return to the fully closed position.

The only real fix for this is a head swap.

It does not always do that much damage. My 89 displaced 3 shims and damaged 2 cams about 7 years ago. I replaced all 4 cams + seals with a nice matched set as well as the buckets and completed a fresh valve adjustment. That car has less than 4 psi difference on compression between all cylinders and it still runs great.

Don't make any assumptions before a careful disassembly to verify where your at. If it looks like you came out lucky then replace whats necessary and run a leak down test afterwords to test for any unnoticed damage.

My 2 cents...

I have a scratched/beat up shim on mine; makes a racket but the car runs fine. I did buy a new cam since the damaged shim pitted the lobe. No bucket damage I don't believe since the valve still opens and closes (makes a tapping noise like a diesel). I'm going to try to replace it when I take some time off around Christmas.

his tapped like that for like 20,000 miles and i kept telling him that he needed to do or somethen was going to happen to it, and it wasnt going to be good and well i hate to say i told him so but i told him so. mines got 160,000 on it now and its probably in need of at least being checked but ill worry about it after we get both the 1991 and his back on the road.
