This is normal, it doesnt have to shift down. The turbos spool up and provide all the power you need to overtake. Unless you need to gun it you should be fine with what I call the "suck n go."

I disagree - this is not normal. I currently experience exactly was Ravensfan79 does. Very poor performance in any gear at or below 1500 rpm's. When you finally push the pedal half way down, the transmission finally downshifts and the power really kicks in - a very dangerous situation with the delay, unknown response time, and a sudden burst of power. Did not do this when I bought the car, but within a few months I experienced this. About nine months later I had the transmission memory reset when a tech agreed there was a hesitation issue. No change within the first week, but then the car operated perfectly for a couple of months, then back to the same problem. Amazing night and day difference! Ford states this condition is normal - to save fuel. But this does not explain why it has operated perfectly for months. If it drove like this on the test drive, I would not have purchased the car .... tough to watch Honda Civics accelerate faster than you without pushing the pedal to the floor! I test drove another SHO on the dealers lot and it was also fine.

Well, according to Ford it is normal and it makes perfect sense. The ecoboost product is all about fuel savings with power. There is a line. When you are in 6th gear on the highway and want to pass someone pushing your foot down without making the car downshift provides plenty of power while still getting decent mileage. Every SHO I've driven does this. I will admit though there is no power below 1500RPMs and this is because there is no boost below that.

I agree with way2evil.

Harder99 drove my SHO a month or so ago and stated it drove the same as his. I didn't then nor do I now think it's an issue. My grandson's Audi A3 turbo will out accelerate my SHO(it also lighter). On a side by side acceleration from about 40 I can hear his Audi downshift. The SHO is in 5th, it's 4000+ pounds, and it'll take some peddle to cause the downshift/acceleration desired. The power band is on the low side at 1500 rpm, it'll take some peddle help to ramp up the boost. It you want to play with the higher reving lighter toys, either put your foot down more or drive in manual mode and downshift your self. A Livernois tune will help also.

Maybe there are two issues here but when it happens in the Flex, there is NO power but the engine continues to idle. Your head flops foreward. Then power resumes, just about the time you get to the side of the road. When it happened at a constant 60 mph, I could see the tach drop to idle and then resume speed, twice in about 15 seconds.

I can see how a tune would solve the other problem of not down shifting when accelerating, but zero acceleration should not be considered normal to Ford.

There are other threads running around here that converse on the "Transmission Issue." I had it, the car actually went into limp home mode at a 70 mph cruise. It would hesitate on downshifting at slow speeds then drop suddenly. It would also act as though it were in neutral at stop signs when applying throttle, then snap into gear. Most of that is now gone do to the TRS and other items being replaced. I've had a couple of snap shifts from a stop or rolling stop, but all other issues have disappeared. Whatever transmission tuning Rick and Livernois has done probably also helped. As far as the slow speed increase under light throttle at 1500 rpm or less, the trasnmission is probably in 5th gear, and trying to get a 4000 lb. car moving faster will take some effort.

This is NOT normal and extremely unsafe, but its not the issue that was described earlier. Have you had this checked out at all?

It has been in 3 times. The first time they replaced the trans sensor and that seemed to get rid of the feeling that it was going from Drive to Reverse fast enough to make to make the car pulse when not moving with the brakes on. One of the problems seems to be communicating with the service writer. Each time they write it down as something different. What is so confusing about "it is like turning the key off while you are moving, except the engine keeps running at idle speed"?

I agree, this doesn't seem to be related to the delay in down shifting others are experiencing.

Good luck on this guys! I just took mine in today for the same issue (experienced only once), basically the car just stopped accelerating around the 30-45mph range and about 4 seconds and a loud tranny thump sound later it corrected itself. The dealership here has no idea what's wrong and said that all the TSBs have been checked out on my car. Then again...they still haven't been able to fix the rattling from the roof area so who knows?!

That rattle has been identified in another thread, look over the TSB list posted, I think you will find the tranny issue also.
