I've noticed a significant hesitation in throttle resposne on my 2010 SHO. It happens only ocassionally, but the feeling is that the car simply doesn't respond to throttle for several seconds and then begins to accelerate. Most of the time (90%) it responds well, but there seems to be some combination of circumstances that results in the hesitation.

Does anyone else experience this?

Has anyone who has installed an SCT or other tune found the problem to be solved?

I've had the hesitation as well. Just like JWadle, it hardly ever happens (3 times in 1800 kms) but it is noticeable and I don't care for it. One time was when I had the trans in manual mode and the shift up was preceded by a long pause. The other 2 times were in normal automatic mode when I was giving it some gas.

I'm not too mechanically inclined so I've wondered "what gives?"

I wonder with it be a "drive-by wire" system and not the normal cable set up would have anything to do with it? When the newer F-150 trucks switched over to it, a similar problem arose. This was back in 2004 though. I hope that they have had a chance to rememdy that by now if that was the case with the new SHOs.

Bingo.
Welcome to the world of DBW.

My 2005 CVPI did the same thing.

This could be solved by tuning. After 3 reflashes at the dealer, I had the car SCT tuned and the problem went away.

I wonder if this is the same problem LotusDriver (or whatever his name is) is having...

Have SCT Tuner Tune with extra Boost. Didn't have hesitation before tune was installed, and have none with tune.

My tune is really great, coupled with the smaller tires, my custom CAI, and rear Magnaflows. A real "sleeper wagon"...

When it happens to me, I am usually in motion and I want to accelerate quickly. It seems like the computer gets momentarily confused as to what my intentions are, and fuddles around a bit before finally kicking up the gears. Not something you want to happen when you need to pass someone on a two-lane road. :)

A good description of exactly what I am experiencing.

This happened to me too, does yours just hesitate or does it cutout and then begin to accelerate?

Mine would actually throw me forward in my seat if I was in motion and gave it a lot of throttle. Then it would throw me back in my seat when it started accelerating. The dealer found the HPFP bad, this was at 1400 miles on the car. Haven't had the problem reoccur since.

3 acceleration problems with my 2010 SHO

Since September 2009, I’ve put 14,000 miles on my 2010 SHO. So far I’m very pleased with the manufacturing quality and while it may not be the best at anyone thing, it is very good at most everything. Below are 3 acceleration problems that I’ve experienced that I wouldn’t expect to find in a SHO, especially one equipped with the Performance Package. Has anyone else in the Forum noticed these and if so know of any remedies?

1. Occasionally there is a hesitation starting from a rolling stop, which can be downright dangerous, if it occurs turning left in a busy intersection. This sounds similar to what JWadle is experiencing.

2. The acceleration transitions from reasonably responsive to more of a Sunday driver mentally a split-second after the car shifts into third gear under normal driving conditions. This happens routinely regardless if the transmission is shifted automatically or manually and is really noticeable and annoying. The only time this does not occur, is if I really tromp on the accelerator.

3. Sometimes the SHO tries to avoid downshifting. Occasionally I can depress the gas pedal perhaps as much as ½” and the car depends on the powerful motor to do all the work.

The later two seem like an attempt on the SHO’s part to achieve better gas mileage. While that certainly is a worthy goal, there needs to be a better balance between it and performance. At least if Ford provides the drivers the option to select a higher performing mode that avoids these acceleration issues at the expense of giving up some gas mileage that would be a good start. This is not achieved with the AdvancedTrac Sport mode.

Would reflashing using the SCT unit address this? Just wondering if its an underlying issue within the programing that can be fixed.

I'm having similar issues but haven't considered it to be serious yet. Just real f***ing annoying sometimes.....

Oh, by the way, mine is a 2011

Regarding your third bullet, I have experienced the same problem. I notice it when cruising at or below 1500 RPM's. I also have to press the gas pedal down half way before anything happens. I test drove another SHO and it downshifts immediately. The dealer told me all cars have tolerances and that he could not state which one was normal. Obviously the one I test drove is normal. I think we both have defective cars. Everyone else please chime in. I have a posting describing a delayed downshift at low RPM cruising. Thanks!!

I figured I would chime in. What was/is happening to my car, in a nutshell, is the transmission range sensor was telling the cars computer that the car was in reverse, instead of the selected gear, and causing the computer to briefly throw the car into "limp home mode". A SUDDEN, but brief loss of all power. When accelerating from a stop, the car would fall flat on its face and stop (in front of accelerating drivers mind you) then, regain its composure and drive off like normal. Over the course of the year, 24,000 miles and WEEKS upon WEEKS spent in for service, for this and many many other problems, the problems are still not gone. Today, no rain sense or intermitent wipers. Last month, rearview mirror vibrating so bad you could not see behind you. Also last month, the Sync system developed an ungodly loud static problem, that the service manager and tech witnessed. (this was not replaced)

I will say that FMC has stepped up and is providing me with a tremendous amount of support and assistance. I will elaborate more on this when it is finally resolved in another month or so.

In the meantime, make sure your dealership is aware of the issues with the faulty transmission range sensors.

I'm pretty sure the TSB covers reflashing the computer. At least that's what they told me. I had a very weird sensation at low speeds and a few very violent downshifts when, say accelerating on an on-ramp.

They performed the TSB and it's back to shifting perfectly again. My guess is there was some tweaking to the shift logic and transmission pressures that needed to be done.

Get it in to the dealer and have them do the TSB and you'll have a perfect SHO again. It is amazing how much of these cars is computer controlled and they often need updates. But it's not bad for a 1st year of both the engine and trans.
