how do i clean my throttle body and MAF? i've searched and found various, often contradicting pieces of information. i was hoping someone could post the entire procedure, from start to finish, for me, preferrably scott and at least one or two others. :)

thanks

(mrr, now at 106k miles, still going strong, 60k coming this winter)

You are not supposed to clean the throttle body, you should have a yellow sticker in it stating so.That being said,i pulled the shaft out, greased the bushings and ran a drill thru the hole by hand to clean up any burrs.

Gumout makes a new throttle body cleaner that specifically says it's for use on coated TB's. It's cheap, simple, and the directions are right on the can. It ran about $2.99 at Pep Boys.

No,it`s just fine.I`m not even sure what the coating is,but i have doublts as to how well it still holds up after 100k miles.

It's a teflon coating and it holds up just fine. If the coating is removed the TB will just have to be cleaned frequently.

I too have cleaned mine with Berrymans. At 167k miles she's just fine.

JT...where you find all these stickers man? (plastic hood, don't clean TB) Never seen the first one on mine... :p

Edit: Disconnect the MAF connector. The MAF sensor can be removed by taking out the screws (if you're lucky like me they'll be a phillips head). Once you take those out carefully remove the sensor. Spray from a ways away the 2 tiny hairlike wires with Berrymans (or carb cleaner). If you use a K&N filter, you'll see the oil build up on it from the filter. They'll be shiny silver when they're clean. I would not touch them with your fingers and I would not drop the sensor. They look fragile, but I'm not sure how fragile they are.
