Two more dumb questions, was Three dumb questions

1) What is the function of the Vehicle Speed Sensor? (Did a search, and lots of topics came up. Unfortunately, 90% were regarding ATXs, and the remainder did not describe all the functions of the VSS)

2) How nessecary is the Charcoal canister on a track only (OK, mostly) car?
For clarification, this is the charcoal canister, right?;
Aug20206.JPG

It is located a the front of the drivers side of the engine bay, below where the factory airbox was mounted and just behind the radiator.

3) What the heck is this?;
(I knew at one point, and forgot)
Aug20205.JPG

It was mounted on the driver's side engine torque limiter (IIRC), I remounted it on the strut tower when I removed the torque limiters.

TIA!

1: Cruise control

2: Not very.

3: Would have to go look. It's friday and I'm sitting and having a beer (should be drinking red wine instead! What wife don't know don't hurt hahahaha). My next trip up will be to get another beer. Looks like a vacuum motor of some sorts.

Hmm, good point. I will replace it just to be on the safe side. It is one of the very few sensors that has not been replaced in the last year or so.

On a different note, stay tuned for the sequel to this thread, "Two More Dumb Questions" as I noted two more items that I am not familiar with. I will post pics tommorow.

I like your car and you're a good lot up there so I grabbed another beer then took a look.

3: EGR vacuum control motor.
That explains why I didn't recognize that part.

At least you grabbed the beer FIRST. :cheers:

It seems to be a never ending process. Took another 25 lbs or so off the front end this weekend. Mostly from decontenting the bumper. Not something I would do on a street driven car. OK, mine still sees the street occasionally. But only occasionally, and that may change by next spring.

Last time it was weighed was just before the convention. With a third of a tank of fuel it was 2830. Being a gas weighs about seven lbs a gallon give or take, probably right at 2800 dry. As I said above, more has come out since. I do not think I will have a problem getting under 2700 before I get the cage done. Still have to replace the factory seats, the exhaust from the heads on back, among other things. Most of the cheap and free stuff is done. Now its starting to get a little spendy. :bonk:

If you decide to proceed, I would recommend picking up another SHO to do it to. Yours is WAY too clean to hack to pieces. :D

OK, two more items that I am perplexed by.

The first is betweem the EGR valve and the throttle body.
Aug22207.JPG

The other is on the fire wall, between the BAP sensor and the wiper motor.
Aug22208.JPG

It is the thin white object, mounted on a piece of stamped steel. The plug attaches to it.

As far as the removal of the charcoal canister, should I just cap the lines that attach to it? One attachs to the throttle body, the other appears to go all the way back to the gas tank. The one going to the tank is the one I am not sure about.

The first one is the EGR PFE sensor. The second one is the fuel pump voltage drop down resistor.

You would connect the fuel tank hose to some sort of filtered vent, like a little K&N filter. Somebody else probably has a better idea. Just put a little vaccuum cap on the throttle body ******.

Glen, just thought of something... The VSS probably has a little to do with the idle too... not normal idle, but if you look when you are driving... Push in the clutch as you come to a stop, the idle will not come down until you stop. I am guessing it uses the VSS for that.

Yes, forgot about that. Monitoring the car's behavior when coming to a stop in neutral or clutch in can tell you whether the VSS is working or not.

Right on. Just for clarification on that, I was never intending on removing the VSS. I am just concerned over its function because as far as I know it is original. I figured if its only use on an MTX car was cruise control, it was not a high priority for replacement.

On a side note, what is the function of the sensor that is inline either to or from the charcoal canister?
