Probably the results of running it through a weight x TQ x HP x AWD calculator... Those sites never give real world numbers...

Stock for stock I am sure the RS is faster... It's A LOT lighter... But I don't get my bum massaged in an RS while I'm running mid 13's stock... Just saying...

Focus is 345-350 hp / 350 lb-ft and 3400 lbs.
SHO is 365 hp / 350 lb-ft and 4400 lbs.

unless the Focus driver is incompetent, the Focus should win.

That's like being upset you lost to a RWD pony car... When your driving a four-door sedan... There is a reason the sho is called a sleeper...

If those are accurate numbers I can say I'm not terribly impressed with the RS. It's 0.6 seconds faster t0-60 than the SHO but only 0.3 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile. I think it's a bit disappointing the smaller lighter car is losing time after they get to 60 when they have nearly identical power.

Ya know... I look at it like this.... The SHO is like Rocky right? You don't always win the fight but no one even expects you keep up.. so when you do squeak one out or come close you get a bit more respect than usual...

Your observation points out the not-well-understood situation that the max horsepower and max torque are not all you care about - you really need to know the area under the torque curve and how that matches up with the transmission ratios. If you have seen a graph of the SHO torque curve, you will recall that it is nearly flat because the torque is actually being limited by the pcm during much of the rpm range. The 4 cylinder EcoBoost in the Focus is not that flat, so the area under it is significantly less than the area under the SHO torque curve, hence the SHO is not as much slower as you would expect from just looking at the hp/torque peak numbers.

wait for the real world to catch up and stop magazine racing. sho will go low 14s stock. id bet a stock rs will go 12s stock with a good driver. don't get it twisted. 2 totally different cars for different people.

You average everyday driver who just mashes the gas probably will hit the high 13's.. maybe very low 14's.. just like on the RS being advertised to hit low 13's but more realistically hitting mid 13's.. which is probably even more varying due to the MTX which the driver makes more difference...

Friend of mine has a dead stock 2012 sho. He went 14.1 on his third pass ever at a drag strip.

I really think the rs is a solid second faster with a good driver.

Car and Driver says 13.4 stock... Forums are backing that up..

http://www.caranddriver.com/ford/focus-rs

Remember there is more than power that goes into 1/4 mile times.. gearing, weight, suspension, etc..

The RS was not built to be a 1/4 mile monster... In the twisties is where a good driver will shine with that car...

Besides your buddy could be a terrible driver..as someone else mentioned you are More likely to see ~13.6 from the SHO with a decent launch.. Car and Driver recorded as much...

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2013-ford-taurus-sho-first-drive-review

I just don't see the RS being THAT much faster in 1/4 mile... on back roads where it can nimble it would smoke a SHO..

But at the end of the day they are two totally separate class vehicles...
