As the title states im thinking of selling my 93 atx for a 96 I found locally. It has body damage but nothing major just looks like a parking lot collision. The cams have been welded and he has proof of it. Thats about the extent of my knowledge of the v8 other then that the trans sucks. What kinda of things should I look for when I go to look at this thing? I know gen 1 & 2's rod bearings, subframe recall, broken subframe etc. Is there anything for the v8 like that that I should look out for. I seem to remember something about the rear (maybe) steel lines rusting out and the blinking alternator light is not supposed to happen, but that about it.:thankyou:

V8 tranny is better than the Gen 2 ATX tranny from what I've been told. Still not the best though.

Common Issues:

- Alternator light / whine
- Brake lines underneath beside driver's side rocker panel from about B-pillar back
- Coolant Degasser Tank leaking from underneath (usually have to pull tank to see)
- Leak at banjo fitting on top of PS pump
- "Trunk Cancer" - Aluminum oxidizing on bottom lip of trunk
- Broken IMRC cable (just zip tie the secondaries open and be done with it)
- Dash peeling away above instrument cluster
- Rust behind rocker panels (look where rocker panels meet lip between floor pan and body
- TC not locking (P1744 code)

The V8 cars are really very stout mechanically and body-wise aside from the cams. Of course there's the usually wearing out of parts, but nothing catastrophic.

Ok thanks for the info guys, I talked to my dad tonight and gave the guy a call, and the car is just to cheap and looks to good to be true, so im gunna skip it as it doesnt feel right and keep my 93. My dads been driving my car all this week and he fell in love with it lol. I know a lot more about fixing the gen 1 and 2 plus I have a 80k miles spare tranny for my 93 in my shed for when it blow, no not if when:rofl:

Heres some pics of it though if anyone was curious to see it:

Thing looks kinda rough....I wouldn't put more than $1800 on it, even with welded cams.

+1 on the doors. Toreador Red is a color the SHO shared with the SLO, so you'll have no problem getting a good set of junkyard doors.

FWIW, there is a V8SHO guy in Dallas selling a 135K '97 SHO in excellent condition right now for under $3K IIRC.

Nice find! The retail value on my car is $6,000+. I have a hard time trying to sell it for $4k. On the other hand I kind of want to keep it around, lol, I listed it once and it didn't sell right away, so then kept it stored in our shed since... Plus, I just put new alternator, battery, tires, tie rods and some other suspension parts on it. It's ready to go but I don't know if I can say goodbye yet... Only reason for selling is so I can have the money to put my gtp into the 12's...
