Hey guys, I need help with a plan of attack.

List of current issues with the new SHO.

1. Door switch is either failed or stuck
2. Driver door lock cylinder damaged
3. Wiggle of the back of that lock cylinder causes locks to operate. Don't know if the lock cylinder damage relates
4. Only have one key and that key does not open trunk. Did 98 have a separate trunk key or is that lock cylinder failed.
5. Despite door switch issues, no light on dash "AJAR" Did somebody pull a fuse?
6. Forward doom lights been removed most likely due to door switch.

The problem is somebody made attempt to break into the vehicle. The driver door handle has been bent up, and I suspect they probably took a screw driver to the lock cylinder which is why its broke, and the key doesn't work.

With all the current issues kinda being related to each other I really don't have the best plan of attack on this one, because I am chasing multiple issues.

Should I just contact ford for a replacement lock cylinder that will fit my key, replace electric connector on that lock cylinder and perhaps purchase a door switch?

Should the ignition key operate the trunk lock cylinder? If so I guess I need to order that one as well.

I would really like to get this issues correct and ideas or suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

Just seems like I should replace most of the parts, hook it all up and go from there?

Any body know how to pull the door handle off? I disconnected the rod at the latch area, but couldn't figure out how to pull the handle off the door with the rod attached. Its like a puzzle. How do you get it off?

I haven't looked at a SHO one recently, but most latches have a clip that locks onto the rod and slides on the handle part. Is the inside door panel off too? Should be a few bolts I'm guessing actually holding the outside door handle on. Maybe like a 10 or 11 mm nut? If the inside door panel is off it should all be straight forward. I just removed a panel this past weekend but didn't pay any attention to the handle area, just replaced a bulb in the lower door pocket area. Let me know what you find out.

I am having the same problem with my 97. I have replaced the switch 2 times before and can't remember what the darn switch is called or item #. It's in the shifter and when you shift the car into drive it locks the door and turns off the inside lights. I have a red envelope I stick up there when driving the car at night. It was a pricey fix when I replaced it last in 03. I just put the car back on the road after sitting in the garage for a few years and the problem is back after hubby dumped a cup of coffee down the shifter. It now does not start periodically, even though the lights are all on, I turn the ignition and nothing. If I lock the doors and let it sit and then open using key pad it will sometimes start. Just does this when it feels like it. No old timers on here remember what this switch is called? I could call the old dealership and see if they still have my old records. I could not take the car to work tonight which prompted me to try and look up info via internet. I was floored when I refound this site and that I could remember my log in and password!

as far as I know I think the same key should open the trunk. I know on mine my trunk gives me issues on not wanting to turn. I have to play with it a bunch. Its worked every time lately. And are you thinking neutral saftey switch?
