Has anyone wanted or had taken the head lights off to add something with in the clear plastic?

I want to add some LED SMD lights and I notice the clear plastic was glued by ford to hold in and keep air tight.

Would I have to cut the clear plastic and reseal it back or does anyone know a good way to break the ford glue?

Ford headlights are a pain to separate. You can try the oven method, but if you ruin a light, you are going to be out a lot of money. If it were me, I would practice on a non hid Taurus headlight. While not cheap, they are still cheaper than the oem hid light.

Oven method

1. heat oven to 225 degrees.
2. Remove everything from the light. Bulbs and ballast.
3. Put light on cookie sheet and stick in the oven.
4. Turn off oven and let the light sit in there for 10 minutes.
5. Try to pry them apart. If it doesnt move at all, put them back in the oven for another 10 minutes or so (make sure you reheat the oven and turn off again) Keep an eye on the lens to make sure nothing is getting damaged.

There are many different times and temps you can use. Check out the post from a fusion owner http://www.fordfusionclub.com/index.php?topic=188842.0

$200 non hid

$512 for hid and it includes the ballast and bulb.

Then you are going to need to reseal the lights. I recommend Nissan Rubber Butyl, or 3m ribbon window weld and be generous with it.

Thank you for the response, I have PM RD designs about the same thing. You know the person who placed their SHO in the 2011 SEMA. I remembered his light was modified in the inside, he gave me a web site that changed his lights and they were:

https://lightwurkz.com/STORE_0E8Q.html

This is for anyone else who wants to change their headlight just like I want to. I am giving out the info because it was given to me to share to other people.

I don’t like the chrome inside the headlight and want to get rid of the orange running light, then place LED 5050 SMD strip lights from back corner to the bottom of the headlight with a halo around the lights just like the Audis and BMWs

I will give photos if I am able to do this

And Billm0066, the do it yourself instructions on this web site talked about the same thing about placing the whole unit in the oven at 225* F (but removing all the electoral parts) just as you stated. But I am confused on how to remove the plug-un from the car to the unit for the HD lights.

Thank you again for you info Billm0066

Not sure what a plug-un is? I havent pulled my lights, but the connectors that attach are usually secured with a plastic clip. Once you pull the bumper, just look at the connector and you shouldn't have any issues. Our bulbs are d3s so the ignitor is attached to the bulb. I am not sure if that is held in by a screw, or if they just twist out. Once you get to the back of the light you should be able to figure it out. I have only pulled d2s bulbs, and the ignitors were separate, and the bulbs were held in by a metal "bulb holder". Those you basically pinched and pulled it out of the way. Kind of confusing to explain it unless you do it yourself then it makes sense.

Imo I wouldn't do the halo because they are on every aftermarket light. It's your car and you can do what you want, but if it were me I would just stick with leds. Paint the chrome, add some leds and call it a day.

I met to say plug-in's

my headlighs have the main plug-in's; from the headlight unit to the car's wiring system.

I called the web site and they told me the job was done by cutting the plasticfor the taurus headlights.

I wouldnt go that route. Not on such a nice car and expensive light. I would pick up a used halogen light from ebay and practice on that. If it works out you can keep it for backup parts.
