That does it! I'm putting an Eaton on an SHO.

Just got back from the Dunes where we tried out The Other Woman with her new Eaton jewelry. All I can say is WOW! SHE WHEELIES!

All I had was WOT tuning available to me but man oh man, does that Yamaha take well to forced induction. I was only making 4 pounds of boost but the Yamaha sure knows what to do with it. Now I have big time lack of traction issue. Even took the paddles down to 6.5 psi and still couldn't hook up well.

At the sand drags on Saturday night she was like a rocket sled. And the noise, Oh my goodness, that whine was soooo sweet, almost need ear plugs though. Even the mufflers didn't help much.

If I did a rolling 2nd gear start down the drag strip so that I could get a nice easy landing off the jump, she would just roost a lot. But if I went from a standing start, whoa baby, you'd better hold on. I saw nothing but sky so I let off a little, hit second and saw more sky. It was great!

I got a couple of videos but the guy using my camera didn't get the wheelies. Didn't break anything all weekend either. The intercooler gave me a 30-33 degree drop in temps, so that was definitely a good idea.

On another note, Troy got his mid-engined SHO buggy tuned to run to 8700 rpm. Boy does that sound awesome coming out of his single exhaust. Bad news, he might have toasted his tranny.

I've got to do some re-plumbing of the blow-off valve and get some kind of an oil cooler back on her and then a smaller driven pulley on the Eaton. Can't wait to see what 8-10 pounds of positive displacement does to a Yamaha powered 1800 pound car.

Yippie!

This might be a good enough video.

That is so cool Tom. Do you have any dyno #'s as far as how much torque is pushing that buggy? I really love living near the beach, but in winter the desert does sound appealing.

No torque numbers yet as it hasn't been tuned yet. We picked up 50 at the wheels with just WOT tuning. I only had this past weekend open to go to the Dunes so I kinda rushed the tuning shop into letting me have it back.

After I give Bizzy a ride in it this coming weekend at our SHO club meeting, I'll be taking it back to the fabricating shop (Modern Auto) so Troy can re-locate the bypass and fab up some kind of oil cooler and tranny cooler mount.

You just can't believe what a difference that 50 hp feels like in a 1700 pound buggy. What a rush.

At the top of Oldsmobile Hill I was still accelerating so fast that I actully had to tap the brake to keep from launching her over the top. (Very dangerous without a spotter at the top watching for other rails and bikes)

I'm going to try and get an in-car camera set up before Bizzy's ride so I can record it.

Holy crap that's awesome, I've never heard TOW before, but wow, that's cool, still has the distinct Yamaha sound to it. 50HP on less than a ton, yeah that's gotta be such a rush. I want one too haha

why are you only making 4 psi? what size is the drive pulley on a 3.2, and on the blower. what year is the blower? On mine with the stock super coupe pulley and the mtx drive pulley i see 10psi of boost. i know the intercooler will drop te boost down a little but 6 psi is an awful lot. do you have any boost leaks anywhere? and wiat till you make 10psi, its quite the rush

It was second I think, I wasn't driving it then. When going from a dig the front wheels go about 6' in the air. Pretty scary the first time she did it. I don't know why it's only making 4 psi. There are no leaks that we've found. It's a stock super charger off a 89 or 90 SuperCoupe. My 3.2 has a stock pulley, 6" I think, which is much smaller than a Supercoupes' drive pulley, which is 8" I think.

if you are losing 6psi from the intercooler you might think about getting rid of it because its a pretty big airflow restriction. Also, before you start spinning that blower faster you might want to upgrade it to a magnum powers blower its a ported gen 2, far more efficient than the gen 1 you are running now, then crank the boost and the intercooler will keep things safe.

Already looked into that option and will be doing the polished version as soon as I can afford it. I wanted to make sure this setup was going to work first, before I started to upgrade it.

I think I'm spinning it too slowly due to the smaller diameter of the drive pulley, which in my case is the accessory drive belt of a 3.2 out of an ATX car. I think the Yamaha motor is so efficient at moving air that it outruns the blower at higher rpms.

you are spinning the blower the same speed as mine since the atx damper is 6" **** like the mtx one. the supercoupe spins the blower faster for 2 reasons, it is a larger motor so it needs more air, and it doesnt rev as high so it can spin the blower at a higher ratio since it wont exceed the blowers speed limits. With a 7000 rpm redline we cant overdrive the blower too much we will over spin it.

I don't think I'm losing 60 percent through the intercooler. We'll see what we get when we tune her.
