Testing relays

I searched here, TCCA, and on V8sho.com. how do I test a relay to find out if it is bad? should I just open it?

Apply power and see if you hear it click.

yes it does.
the easiest way is plug it in a see if it clicks...
next would be, put power to the primary curcuit(coil side), and on the secondary circuit use an ohm meter to see if you have continuity. there cannot be any power in the secondary circuit though.
what relay is this for?
im not sure on what prong you apply power to.. IIRC its 87a and then ground is 85... im not sure on that though...and i dont have my book with me right now.. and the sho's relays may be different....
probably need to look it up in a chilton or helms... whichever..

Whith an ohm meter you can check the pins until you find two that offer some resistance this would be the two coil connectors. Then apply 12+ to one of these and ground to the other. When power is applied you can then check for continuity on the normally open contacts.
