so today we had a test & tune, with only 30 cars allowed to register. we ran in 45min sets, with an hour break for lunch at noon. I started the day at 36 second runs, and ended with a best run of 34.7 something or other. This was on my crappy all-seasons, too. the concept of "go slow to go fast" has finally started to sink in a bit. haha!

here is my first run:

here is my 2nd fastest run. can't really make out the ground due to glare, but oh well.

no photos today, because it was go go go go. we'd finish one lap, and then be pretty much at the starting grid right away again. got about 23 runs in, total. been a good day.

haven't had an opportunity to paint the wheels and then mount the tires yet. i'm actually kind of glad they weren't ready, cause i learned a lot more about actually handling the car today instead of getting used to new tires, wider wheels and a different car in that regard. i wish ALL events allowed us that many runs.

Hey Alex,

With the Falken's and wider wheels plus less tire flex ... you should be able to shave off 4 seconds

Let's try this weekend to get the wheels/tires done.

i hope so! i averaged 35.5 seconds, and an old, stock oldsmobile cutlass was averaging 35.4 seconds.... :nut: i think if i had a few more runs i could have gone a bit quicker, as i was finally getting the right feel for what was working and what wasn't working.

Practice and seat time will be your friend ;)
Trying to attack an autox with speed will not work. Keep in mind, you cannot gain time, only preserve time on an autocross.

Did it have the Quad 442 in it (DOHC engine)? Those things are pretty fast. There's a husband/wife locally that drive an Olds Calais Quad 442 in DSP and they haul @ss, often finishing 1st in their class. You thought the SHO was a sleeper.

i doubt it. it was a loner car from his workplace while his 323GTX is out of commission. it didn't sound like much more than a 6cyl engine.
