Tensioner Problems

trying to replace an alternator on an ATX.

Loosened the tensioner pulley and tried to push down like said on shotimes.

tensioner wont' budge. Any help appreciated!

i just went through the same thing. i ended up taking the bolt that goes through the pulley off and pulling the pulley off with the belt. to put it back on, put the bolt through the pulley but dont tourque it down. with that bolt loose, it will allow u to move the screw that moves the tensioner pulley up and down. after u get the belt tight, tighten up the bolt that goes through the pulley. i dont know if this is the best way to do it but i had the same problem u r having and this worked for me.

I don't have an ATX and I think the pulley is a bit different. Are you sure that it's sufficiently loose? If another try doesn't do the trick you can always unbolt the whole pulley bracket and maybe clean it up and/or get a little **** in there. Shouldn't be too difficult.

OKKKK I figured it out. MTX tensioners are different from ATX ones.

ATXers: Do not take off the tensioner bolt. Don't even loosen it. You take a rachet/breaker bar with a 17mm and push down as if you were tightening the nut. By doing this it moves the spring tensioner down to loosen the belt.

I didn't get that when I read the instructions on shotimes.
