Temparture gauge not working

I'd replace the temp sender as a starting point. It is the single wire connection to the left of the thermostat if you are facing it.

by the way before replacing it , check it if the plug connector is pluged in all the way, cause sometimes those plugs out pop out for no reason, i had this happen to me , and thats why you dont have an accurate running temp of your engine or as in your story dont work at all..

Try this. Take the single wire that is connected to the temperature sending unit, note this is not the coolant temperature sensor, and ground the wire with the key in the on position (engine off). The gauge indicator needle should go to the extreme hot end. If this hgappens then the gauge is OK. If this does not happen then the sending unit is bad or you have a bad wire or connection. Note: DO NOT attempt to remove a sending unit when the engine is hot. The expanded fluid is under pressure and will spray out and can cause burns.
