I couldn't believe it myself.
I made a few changes in the SHO and look where we got last Sunday.. 5th top time in a field of 102:
Autocross Results
(That's me in Prepared Sedan and TOAM. Raw times ranked at the very end.)
Specifically, I made changes to make the car handle more neutral. I put stiffer springs in front (went from 450 to 550's) and a smaller swaybar in the rear (from 26mm to 21mm; I am not running a front sway bar). Also, I softened the rear Koni rebound rate a tad. My goal was to reduce body roll and prevent the inside rear tire from lifting in aggressive turns. Neutral handling is definitely where it's at.
It paid off. Big time. The Slow Heavy Object remained planted throughout. I could really drive her hard and fast through the turns and slaloms, and I was amazed at how easily she'd go where I pointed.
Everything worked in harmony. Know the feeling of skiing downhill real fast, winding effortlessly and rhythmically through a series of moguls? That's kind of what it felt like.
I also really, really focused ******* better technique. Specifically, maximizing the straights and braking as little and as late as possible. Choosing the line which required the least steering input. Steering by modulating the throttle. These are all processes that in my case need more refinement. It's an ongoing thing.
But what an intense rush. Lordy, how I love the way this car dances!
