-car has 118k on it. wasn't doing this prior to transmission failing(to my knowledge!) anyway, have replaced tranny, fired it up and there is a tapping/knocking sound that seems to be coming from the passenger side of the car. just with the ***** ear it seems to be from the rear of the engine. it seems to be doing it at crank speed, not cam speed, as i took it 3 yrs ago to FPS to have the cams welded. i can't do a video on my phone, but i had a friend do it, but he left it at home today. will post as soon as i can get it from him, but in the mean time, has anyone had or seen any symptoms such as this?? G3 are not rough on mains as the V6, to my knowledge are they??? any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated......
:thankyou:

Performance issues? I had a loud knocking coming from the engine & go worse and lost huge power. Turns out it spit out a spark plug and smashed the coil when it came out.

When driving at a steady speed and you can hear the knocking, let up. Does the noise get quieter or disappear for a bit?

Try sticking a broom handle in your ear with the other end on the block. See if the noise lesses when you let up on the throttle.

Sounds almost identical to when my front intake cam went. I know you said it was welded but is it possible the welds broke loose?

Take the oil cap off and stick your ear to it and see if its louder then.

-well, no one may believe it, but she purrs like a kitten now. the fix was something that , now seems like, "yep , that will do it." but just seems so simple, it couldnt be. when the tech was R&R ing the tranny he hit the oil filter with the subframe and pushed the bottom of it in. he showed me before we fired it off, and said he had done it, and i said "no prob" as i was going to change the oil anyway. so then fire it off and of course you have heard the tapping knocking noise, so we were out trying to diagnois it. have been noticing the last few times we cranked it, it seemed quieter. so had it up in the lift and i just happened to notice the oil filter and where it had pushed in, was almost all pushed out except for a place about the size of an eraser head. i thought to myself, cant be that simple, can it??? so we took off the filter, drained the oil, put on a new filter a filled her back up with oil. fired her up and its been quiet as a mouse ever since. live and learn i guess......

my car has made close to the same sound for a while and then goes and comes sometimes..

your saying a dent in the oil filter caused your sound? how do you think that? i know you changed it and it fixed the issue but still?
