ok, my factory tach stopped working (89 model) so i replaced the cluster. now the factory tach is off about 500 rpm at idle and about 1200 when i get near the redline, anyway, i installed a autometer with shiftlight. my question is what is the best way to disable the factory tach?? could i just cut the wire leading from the dis??

Don't cut the wire at the DIS! The signal on that wire also feeds the ECM. The location of the splice where the wire branches off to the ECM and tach is unknown to me. Perhaps you can cut it where it enters the instrument cluster.
