Recently I disconnected my cruise control due to the line sticking the throttle open. Today the line somehow caught on the throttle and stuck it open. The tach reved out past 8000 before I was able to cut the engine. I took the cruise back off and secured it so this wouldn't happen again, but now when I start the car the tach needle goes below the 0 and gets caught on the plastic piece that is supposed to stop it. Thus I now have no tachomoter. Is there any way I can get it unstuck w/o taking off the dash (my tools at school are very limited)? And if I have to take off the dash, should I just push the needle around back to 0? Will it mess with the accuracy of the rpms? Thanks.

The "Old School" trick is to wind the car up to redline and it usually grabs the needle and pulls it back. Warm her up first, please :)

Thanks! One question though, how long shoud I rev it? I don't want to be sitting there for 30 seconds with the pedal to the floor waiting for something to happen. Does it grab the needle quickly (i.e. after you pass 8000)? Thanks again, I'm glad there is something I can try before I just have to take the dash off. :D

Joe do you have the rev limiter in "ol reddy"? If sho hit it in first and it should set the tach straight. Lighting them up the whole 1/4 mile headbang

I'm going again on Sat. hopefully i'll have some good e.t's this time. I'm going to eliminate the A/C compressor, and have the N20 switch on the steering wheel so i don't have to go "up in smoke"

Yeah, I was surprised to hear that a WRX were running mid 16's. She must have really bogged off the line! You should be able to launch those things @ like 6000 w/o wheelspin!

I had a 1989 that the tach was stuck, AND it was below the pin.

Take itout after it is warmed up, and get into 2nd gear than slam it :) when it hits close to redline the tach just kicked in :) :) Try it, it worked for me.

I took the advice, warmed up the car and nailed it in neutral. Lo and behold, it grabbed the needle back and now I have a tach again. Thanks a lot for the advice. I'm glad I didn't just take the dash off. And yes, I agree not all girls are bad drivers. thumb
