Hello ALL,

I have been on this forum for a while and I dont post much b/c im mostly a search whore, but I have to let others know about how awesome :hail: sychromesh is!! I was all ready with my mobil 1 synthetic but I kept remembering the praises of synchromesh, so I went down and bought some, and all I can say is WOW! My tranny only has 10k on it, and the fluid was a little low do to the tranny seal at the halfshaft leaking a little since sept. The overall shifting is sooo great and smooth, I just wanted to keep driving and driving today, dispite the 21 degree temps and snow all over the roads and still falling. I had an ATX for 3 years and am still pretty new to the MTX thing, but this stuff is awesome!

Once you go MTX you'll never go back!

I now have to second the argument.

The Quaiffed 95 had been developing VERY notchy shifting at all shift points over the last year. I always ran Redline D4 (still running in the other cars with no problems). I switched over to Mobil 1 ATF a month ago and it got a little better, but I was still afraid I was due for a transmission rebuild. Yesterday I switched to GM Synchromesh and within 100 miles, the car was totally different. Very smooth shifts. Most of the notchy shifting gone. Any problem running straight synchromesh with a Quaiffe?

Back in Michigan ... again.
I too have tried different transmission fluids in my MTX's...everything from regular old ford fluid to redline to royal purple. When I switched to synchromesh I was blown away at how easy it became to shift my SHO :thumb:

Some of us have had experience the other way with Synchromesh fluid. It was in my 95 for a few months and a few track events and I couldn't get that stuff out fast enough. Shifts got much worse and much harder. Just getting that stuff out and putting el-cheapo Pennzoil dino juice in made it better.

There seems to be enough differences in synchro/blocking rings that different trannies respond differently to different fluids. It may also matter what sorts of dust/contaminants are in the case with the fluid, I dunno, but experiences do seem to vary quite a bit with the different fluids.

my ex roommate put a new tko tranny in his mustang... they send with and recommend royal purple for it...well after first few trips in it third gear starts to grind no matter how easy you shift it.....friend recommends putting in synchromesh b/c royal purple is **** thin and first trip out its an instant fix...tranny shifted perfect from then on til now so i'd recommend synchromesh and im thinkin bout draining mine and adding it to my MTX

Hahaha. When you said syncromesh, I thought you meant that you recently discovered a syncromesh gearbox! Hahaha... Like you lived in a cave all these years or something!

I'll have to check this stuff out once I replace my axle seals and reseal the housing. Thanks for the tip. :thumb:

Same here, looking foward to read up on what you guys find out with the stuff. I def think mine could shift alot easier. Probably will do it myself too.

Im running Penzoil Syncromesh with a shot of FF-modifier.

This crapy gearbox feels wonderful with the proper fluid! :thumb:

I wonder if it couldn't be a wear/condition issue, because I also have heard many varied results from people. If the transmission is super tight, I can see Mobil1 or other really thin fluids working well and thick ones like Synchromesh making it miserable. When our transmission was notchy with Mobil1 or Redline, it actually felt like there were parts loose in the transmission (could not get through the gates smoothly). The thicker syncromesh might be compensating for larger clearances and making the transmission "tighter" so it shifts better. Who know??? All I know is it made it much better for me.

Ive never had good luck with mobil 1 synthetic whether it was a fresh MTX or a higher mileage MTX. General notchyness and worse when cold.

Another :thumb: to GM Synchromesh here. It cured my notchy shifter instantly. A bit pricey but 3 quarts every couple of years wont break the bank.

I just put in syncromesh as well...Its only been about 20 miles but already i can feel a noticeable difference. I had been running mobil 1 synthetic for a year and a half now, and it was always notchy. Now if only it could fix my clutch from not fully disengaging and pay for my ticket....then it would be a real miracle fluid :thumb:

I likes synchromesh in my 94's tranny with 100k on it and no refresh. Actually I ran a 2qt synchromesh with 1QT of dino ATF. I liked it but would still have a slight grind on 2nd gear when really cold out. Right now with my quaifed tranny, I'm running dino ATF and have been for about 3500 miles. I am gonna give it another 1-2k miles before I switch over to AMSoil synthetic ATF. Drainplug makes that an easy switch :) Just want to make sure that the blocking rings friction material is well broken in.

I used Syncromesh in my 91 Talon TSI. DSM's are known for their bad tranys and the syncromesh works awsome.

Im only aware of two, GM Syncromesh and Penzoil Syncromesh.

There might be more, but I opted for the cheap Penzoil zzzzz
