When I first got my SHO, I plugged in my trusted iPod Classic and it worked. After a week or so, SYNC decided that it would no longer recognize it. So, I went out and got a new iPod touch. This, has worked well...until tonight.

My wife wanted to hear a given song, which SYNC found...but it wasn't connecting the artist to the album. In fact, lots of artists were missing from the "Artist" list when browsing.

Before I go on....I'll cut to the quick. Does anyone have input on how track/albums should be set up in iTunes to best work in the SHO? I've been using iPods connected to my daily driver for years without issue.

I also wonder how long it takes to index when connecting an iPod. I have about 13GB of music,,,perhaps I'm not waiting long enough and this is why all tracks/albums haven't appeared?

Back to our story...

I bought the iPod into the house and looked at the files in iTunes. Seems that many...for reasons unknown to me...were set up as "compilations", which made sense as these albums appeared under "Unknown Artists" when browsing.

Viewing the tracks in iTunes, I found that these could not be edited unless I went to the actual files and unlocked them. Then, I could change it.

So...back out to the car and now some albums only show a couple tracks, some artists don't show all albums, etc.

One of my iPod Classics seems to work better, which makes me wonder if the iPod Touch's music app may use some different criteria for SYNC to find artists, albums, etc.

Whew...thanks for taking the time to check this out...glad for your thoughts!

I have a gen 3 sync system with the latest style nano. Oltly thing I fund kind wonky is the system won't display the artist artwork all the time. It uses gracenote allot.

So my question to you is what sync system do you have? Gen 1, 2 or 3?

The one thing I see a lot is a conncted device gets updates and becomes incompatible with sync. You can try to update your sync systems C.I.P from Syncmyride.com.

Another overlooked part of the system is your u.s.b. cable. Have you tried different cables? I suspect you have.

Mine has SYNC3. According to a check this AM, I"m on the latest version of SYNC.

What's really odd is that on my old iPod, it shows all the tracks on a given album....but on the Touch...they're missing when viewed from SYNC. They are on the Touch as I can see them.

Plus, the Genres showing on the Touch are not showing on SYNC either. Arg. It even is displaying incorrect band names...like "Mason" instead of "Jason". Have no idea where that is coming from as it's not in the iTunes files.

I was hoping to find a way to "forget" the Touch and have it index from scratch..but have yet to find a way to make this happen.

Apparently, there's an app to help make your iTunes library work better with SYNC....but I cannot find it.

Sync 3 3.0 is the latest and greatest. If you have sync3 set up to update over the air there could be a compatibility issue. You could go to a dealership and connect to any sync 3 vehicle at 3.0 to find out.

You should have a selection to reminded your device. If not compete a factory restore on your I pod the reload everything. Complete a master reset of sync (setting menue) Then connct and let the system re-index your iPod.

That's the best thought I have at the moment.

Well, after way too much time messing with this....it looks like the Ipod Touch is working. I have no idea what I've done differently...and it still gets a couple artist's names wrong.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I noticed with my USB stick some files read the embedded info not the file name artist, title. I have a Japanese import that shows Japanese on the main screen and no info in the right dash screen.

Lostneye..I've been using the iTunes music folder....how do you import your music?

I do realize that this is now over two seperate threads...but I'm amazed at how much more correctly this is working with Gracenote off.

I don't care for iTunes. I just drag and drop onto the USB stick. I can't remember the program I used to load music on my iphone since I don't use it much, I got a new phone 2 months ago and haven't even loaded any music onto it yet.
