I found a 89 sho for sale very close to home. It has 172k and is 800 OBO. Is it worth $400  for Tranny/parts. Will the swap work with a 91. Also, how much for a used tranny from a junk yard?

It is definately worth it if the tranny is in good shape. Then again, if it is original, it has 172k miles of unknown (by you) use, you could go to all the trouble to replace it only to have it die on you the day after you get it back from the shop. Junk yards are probably out, as SHOs are a rare find with the powertrain intact. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, it will swap, as will any manual tranny's from 89-95. thumbs_u

I know for a fact that there are several sho's at a nearby junkyard, Chuck&Eddy's. I'm not sure if the drivetrain is intact in any of them though.I'm woundering how hard the removal of the tranny would be from the 89. Any idea of time it would take or tools needed? Also this car has no cat-back system or flex pipe. The Y-pipe situation is iffy. Any idea at horsepower increase/decrease; most likely the latter to the best of my knowledge because of lack of back pressure. Possible drag car with addition of $ and Nitrous Oxide?
