Hmmm...this is strange...or is it??

I just got struts/springs/bushings for my 94 ATX and the 5 shops I called so far will not install them. They will not install parts they did not sell or won't do the work period.

Any suggestions?

Your best bet would be to find a smaller shop, not places like Midas or Meineke.

Have you checked any places like NTB, or Town Fair Tire?

Two of them were tire shops and the other three were smaller, local shops that advertised struts/shock replacement in their yellow pages ads?? I don't get it? I'm ready to walk in there w/ cash in hand and they're telling me they cannot put in aftermarket parts(Tokico/Eibach/Energy) cause of liability issues.
I'll keep searching.

Its because the shop/garage usually makes more money off the customer(you) by using there own discount/warehouse parts, labor is just a plus :) .

Keep looking around you'll find a shop somewhere that will do it.

It is also a liability issue for the shop performing the work. If there is a manfacturer's defect with the part and you or someone else are hurt as a result, the shop can be liable for the damages as well as the manufacturer.

Just food for thought. More times than none, they do want to make money off the parts also.

Try to talk to a manager when you go to the shop. I got Midas to install my struts and springs. Then of course they tell you that half a dozen other things are wrond with your car and they want to fix those to.

I had that problem at Midas with my Bullet mufflers. The manager didn't want to install them because they sell their own glass packs. I finally said "just tell me if you don't want to do this and I'll go down the road to someone else" it gets them every time. They installed them for $50.00. Same thing with my front hubs. The fact is the mark up the price on their own parts and can warranty them.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I called 2 other places (7 total so far) and the same thing. Believe it or not it's either, we won't do it using someone else's parts, we'll do the struts but not the springs, or we won't do it at all due to liability issues.

I'll keep trying.

Doing it yourself is not an option? In my opinion it is not all that difficult if you've got the time, but even so if you could get the springs onto the struts and bring a place the assembled spring/strut combo perhaps you'd have more luck in getting them to do it. It is crazy that no one has taken on the job because I had mine put on at a mom and pop place with no problems what so ever. In fact my koni/shoshop springs were used :p so liability is probably greater than new stuff. Anyways just a couple ideas, but get that stuff put on and the G35 may sit more :D :D :D ... YEAH RIGHT :p , maybe when it's raining eh?

No it's not an option. All my free time (if I ever have any) is spent w/ my kids. Not to mention I've never done it or seen it done so it's a job I wouldn't consider doing myself.

The SHO has needed struts for a while now...I'm on the original set at 115K miles. As for the G35, I really haven't driven it as much as I'd like. With the holiday season, some crappy weather, and the fact that on weekends anywhere I go with the family we're in the Odyssey...the G has sat a bit and only has 900 miles on it.
I've got a couple of nice weekend getaways planned in the Springtime where I'll really get to test it out.
