hey whats going on everyone. i could use some advice right now.I just picked up an entire set of monroe struts and i was gonna replace all of the coils with moogs as well. However, after a intellectual conversation with sho ripper(yeah chris) im wondering if it would be best just to replace the rear coils and leave the front ones stock. The front have no cracks in them and the back is where the major bumping was comming from. Have you guys heard of a lot of front coils going bad or it is mainly the back?thanks!!

Stock fronts don't seem to go bad often, but heres the thing. Moogs have higher spring rates and they are progressive coils. So you'll find that the backs going to be there and ready for more and the fronts just not going to be there as much. Personally its $100 for 4 springs only going to cost you $50 more to buy fronts and backs so might as well do it, then you get good spring rates, if I remember right about the same as eibach and intrax spring rates!

Since youre going to replace the struts you might as well do the coils at the same time, save money and time.

I'm with Prophet, your gonna have to take them apart to put the struts in anyway, why not just replace all the springs while your at it.

I just finished redoing the rear on mine, so at the moment I have just what you are talking about; moog springs rear, stock front. I think that is fine if you want to save a few bucks. But I really like what the Moog springs have done, and I will probably replace the stock front with cut-down Moog when I get to it. The Moog springs in rear give the car a very nice rake. I am less enthusiastic about the Sensatrak struts. They are too cushy for my taste. I would prefer a stiffer shock with more aggressive dampening.

You should replace the front and rear strut rod bushings with Moog because it's easy to do with everything apart for strut installation. If the old shocks leaked fluid, you will need new lower spring isolators from Ford because the oil swells the rubber ruining the old ones. You will probably need new boot kits. You may need new upper strut mounts; compare Monroe and Moog, Monroe are less expensive. You will need new pinch bolts; Monroe PN AK50.

Gotta agree...they'll be apart anyway...spend the extra $50 and not worry about them for another 100k miles.

I think you SHOuld just put on the low mile struts and springs i have that are already mounted. Also i heard from one of the best in the SHO world that moog springs actually raise the car :bonk:

Yes, the Moogs raise the car...that's why we cut 1.5 coils from the fronts and 1 coil from the rears...and they are only $100 for the set! So if you are trying to save money and still get a good ride...what the heck!

I've tested the springs now on the road and at the track...they're great! And cheap, did I mention that already?

Personally i'd buy a set of lowering springs for the extra $ to lower my car instead of cutting springs. Just my .02 cents.

I don't know if it happened to anyone else but my front OE springs both broke in the same week, with normal everyday driving...95ATX at about 111K. Thats when I bought my Eibachs, I should have spent the extra money for Intrax IMO.

suspension ideas; do it right

Since suspension is about the most important factor, once the car is going, I would get Eibach or equivalent springs and Tokiko or Koni struts; I did and the result is great. Progressive springs really help and require better than stock shocks due to faster action. Monroes just wont hack it
