My sunroof would open quite nicely by wouldn't close or pop-up. It just stopped yesterday with no warning. I had an extra roof console (came with the car) that I put in, and everything works nicely now.
Has anyone ever repaired this switch? I have some time to monkey with it, but I don't know where to start. With that printed circuit board mounted directly to the switch, it seems very complicated. Way too many wires too.
Can these things be repaired (since it is a one direction failure)?

I fixed mine one time, but forgot how I did it now. I followed the directions from Shotimes I think. Though it might not be the same problem, mine was the switch, it wasn't working at all. I remember super glue being involved LOL

My interior is grey and the cover for the upper console was grey as well, but inside it is mocha brown.
My replacement was grey everywhere.
Is there any wiring diagrams that show how this overly - complicated switch works?
I have heard of swapping this switch for a Contour window or sunroof switch, so I am guessing they work the same.

When swapping to a Contour switch some of the wiring at the switch has to be changed, but hey if you're going to be soldering a new switch in anyway might as well upgrade to the Contour switch - a couple $ at the junkyard if not free.

These are the only instructions I've ever seen on this procedure:

ContourSwitchWriteUp
Not sure who put this together, but credit goes to you sir/maam. :thumb:

^ I don't know why you would waste your time soldering those connections when you could use a contour sunroof switch. Just splice them in; forget which color wires go where off hand, but I have done probably 5. It fits like a glove in the existing hole and requires zero soldering.

The picture above is for if you use a window switch and then it needs to be soldered. Just use a sunroof switch. FYI you can find the switch and harness on ebay for under $10...Makes life much easier.

I appreciate all the advice I am getting on this topic.
It may be harder to do the window switch, but at least I can get one locally in a pinch.
I will look on E-bay for the sunroof switch, what would be the search words to zoom-in on this switch? Being in Canada adds another layer of difficulty in getting things, but it can be done.
Thanks to all who helped me out.

I'm surprised the thing fits inside the Moon roof console...

Just a little additional information:
Although it looks like you can pull down the console near the roof opening, like a lot of other Ford stuff (like door panels), there are screws behind the glass windows that let the light out for map lights. You can gently pry beside the pivot point of this rocker glass window and get one side of the window to pop out, then you simply do the same to the other side and it falls out. Use something like a kitchen knife as it is a tight fit.

While I was taking out the screws to get the console down, one of the screws would not back out. The first thread or two near the head of the screw were gone. I pried the head of the screw but not much happened because there is not a lot of room to pry.
Finally put the phillips bit in my drill, put it in reverse and pried on the head. After about 15 seconds the screw threads caught and it turned out. As it fell to the floor it hit my arm in a couple of places and actually burned me enought that I had to put ice on the welts.
Nothing is easy... when I read in the instructions to remove screws..... it sounds so easy.
Why me?
