I'm looking at some firestone firehawk indy500 tires in 235/45/zr18. This car IS NOT my dd, and I live in an area that gets kinda cold, but rarely snows and doesnt stay freezing all day often. So are summer tires ok? I'm going with that size to get my overall diameter back to factory to get my speedo back in line. I think they'll fit. Maybe...

summer tires are going to be very slippery at temperatures below 50 degrees, and almost worthless in any kind of snow. so you would need to drive something else on days below 50* if it is wet at all.

I wouldnt drive this in the snow. I have a tundra for that. He loves the snow! The other tires I was looking at are the gforce comp2 a/s. But I'm thinking why compromise all out grip for more money? I can get the indys for $775 mounted, or $850 for the gforce. Dont get me wrong, the gforce is a great tire, my gf has them on her 15. Has anybody ran a summer tire on one of these?

I run Sumitomo HTZIII summer tires on my 91+. It's a summer only performance tire and I love them. My 91 gets parked from November to April though so it's not a big deal. I put all seasons on my other SHOs. When the Sumo's need replacing I think I'm gonna go with Continental Extreme Contact Sport. A buddy of mine has them on his car and I really like the performance they give.

You should be fine with summer tires. Below 40 is dicey, but you will really notice below freezing Here in Michigan it became unseasonably cold these past two Novembers and I don't change to my winter tires until Thanksgiving. I spent both Novembers on summers and you just have to be careful around freezing as dry pavement will seem like driving on ice !

For my summer tires I like to stay around a 200 treadware, like my Hankook RS3s, and I was going to try BFG Rivals this time around .

Due to considering selling the car and needing some tires that would last at least 10k, I considered Hankook V12 Evos, which I've had before They are an excellent summer tire with about 85-90% of the capability of the RS3-RS4.

I instead went with the G-Force Comp 2. I was pleasantly surprised They are as good as the V12 Evo, and did well in a couple of track events. I would recommend them (the summer tire, not the a/s)

The a/s are very sticky. You can hear them if you roll with the windows down :D

There just aren't any a/s tires that compare to the performance of a summer tire. In the dry or wet. AsiI've mentioned before, for people that want a single tire for four season performance the only real a/s tire ,that also carries the M&S snowflake rating is the Nokian WR G3 (might be up to G4 now haven't checked in a year). It's been a favorite of SHO folks for many years . There are probably some top-end a/s tires that could have better summer handling but none that can handle cold and winter conditions as well
