Looking for some input from the open track guys that run the 96 brake upgrade. What pads they've used and what worked best, I plan on changing back to the Ford pads after the event. Don't care much about rotor abuse, I plan on changing them out in the near future.

Well don't have experience with them but Carbotech Panther Plus might be along the lines of what you are looking for. Lance Chaney has used Panthers and he open tracks. Maybe he'll fill you in. You know it probably wouldn't hurt to get a set of dedicated track rotors to go along with your pads. Not only do you want a fresh surface on the rotors so they can get the most benefit out of carbon loading but I would suspect that only having one type of carbon metallic compound bedded into the rotor would be a good thing. A drop in the bucket pricewise compared to the fees you'll pay at the track so why not?

Thanks shojuan,

That was the name I was looking for, (Carbotech Panther or panther plus) I had done some research sometime back on those, now to find a vendor.

Be sure to season the rotors and bed the pads before you go to the track. You don't want to run a road course on green pads and rotors.

Instruction on how to do this are on shotimes.com or other websites like Baer's. (baer.com).

You can order them directly from Larry: http://www.carbotecheng.com/main.htm
I believe Mr. Shonut himself is also a Carbotech vendor and he might have slightly better prices even. But I don't know that Josh is around this week.

Just got off the phone with Larry, he's getting me a quote on the Panther XP's, also new rotors and bobcats for brawling the streets. That way I can run the same rotors with both sets because Carbotech uses ceramic based friction material in both sets of pads. (That way the base compond is alike and the brakes won't develope brake chatter associated with swapping different pads).

Happy SHOing

No problem, I'll have this thing ironed out so I can come down to CA and play at the 2004 Convention boink It's never to early to prepare.

July 17 is a big All Ford track day at Seattle International (now known as Pacific Raceway) its a legendary road course with lots of twisties. :D
Robert Schmidt with his S/C 92 SHO from Salem, OR and I will be representing the SHO's during this event.

Well, sorry I missed this thread! I do have a set of Panther XPs for track use and didn't have any problems, even at Laguna Seca. They seem to be holding up pretty well, though the higher-grip/temp compounds do eat rotors pretty quickly. Also, don't expect the dust boots on your calipers to last.

Lance, Thanks for the input,
What rotors have you been using?

I have just been buying the normal Raybestos line (not the Raymold -- the better ones). I haven't had any problems with warping on the track rotors, though my street rotors (with Panther Plus) felt warped at my last event (in the rain, so I didn't bother putting on the XPs+other rotors) when they got hot. I suspect it was due to glazing on the pads rather than the rotors warping since they are fine when cooler.

I've heard that having the rotors grooved helps to prevent the pads from glazing. I do NOT have that on my race pads + rotor set. I may do it in the future if I run into problems but so far they have been fine even with V700s and the 3.2L upgrade. That might change now that I have a Quaife. I may need to run some brake ducting although I do have pretty open wheels (OZ Cignus 3-spoke)

I have an event on Friday, which will be the first one in the dry with slicks and the quaife. I can put up a post after that if I have any problems.

I'm also just running ATE Super Blue fluid. Not sure how close it is getting to boiling but there are others that have a higher dry boil point. I like the fluid because it has a high wet boil point as well; I really should change it every event but went all of last year with the same fluid and never had any problems. Just another thing to think about.
