Like the subject says...I'd like suggestions on brake pads for my '94.

The people I bought the car from put cheap crap on the car and it covers the rims with brake dust in a few short days.

Looks? Performance? Rotor Life? Pad Life? What is your priority?

Ceramics don't dust, and are quiet, but they are ******* rotors. They generally also do not provide excellent performance.

Carbon metallics dust and may be somewhat noisy. But their braking performance is excellent and they do not eat rotors for breakfast.

I personally used Performance Friction CM pads with Baer brakes. Great combo, dusting did not bother me as I washed the car/wheels regularly anyway. Tried Akebono ceramics, performance was non-existent.

Priority is performance of the pads...now that doesn't mean track-worthy, but I want pads that perform better than stock.

I would also prefer less brake dust and no squeaking.

Performance pads will generate more brake dust than ceramics. I also have the Performance friction CM pads and would agree they are a good choice. My 17 in wheels are very easy to clean so no biggee, where the stock 89 weaves are the worst to clean.

I use Carbotech pads on both the street and track. Their autoX pads would work well for the street and even their track pads do well at cooler temps. They do dust some. Their noise isn't extreme.

Right, but Hawk HP-S pads are also EXTREMELY dusty. I love them and could care less how much they dust but man are they dirty! HP+ are the same way and very noisy.

Sam, the Hawk HPS pads I'm using aren't SHOwing any dust issues or brake noise. It might be due to their size, vs the 96' discs, that you pointed out. I can say that they have really performed well for me, even when I was at VIR for the 2011 convention!

Those PFCM pads were used on SHOs 20-25 years ago, when we had no other choices. Barely better than stock, and not worth it, IMO.

If you want brake performance, dust is part of the equation. Only ones that don't (from what I hear), and seem to perform well (from what I hear), are the EBC Yellow.

I'm a Carbotech fanboy, but I'm currently running Hawk Blue/ Hawk HP+ on the SVTF. Hawk Blues have far less dust than my favorite Carbotech XP10/XP8 combo, but they are very rough on the rotors.

For street-only use, Hawk HPS, Carbotech 1521 (formerly called Bobcat), the EBC Yellow, or Porterfield R4S (used to run these on my SHOs).

Availability of these pads is kinda limited tho, so if that is a concern, go with other brands suggested in posts above. EBCs seem to work well for the Gen 4 crowd, and the Yellowstuff pads are not too ******* the rotors.

The current formulation of the PFCM pads are horrible.

I currently have EBC Yellowstuff on my car, and while their performance is fantastic, they are incredibly dusty.

Unless you're doing 100-0 stops all over town, just stick with a quality set of ceramic pads and call it a day.

I tried the HP+ pads on the track, and they were very dusty, but didn't make any noise until they hit the squealers. This was with cobra calipers.

On the wagon, with mustang GT calipers, I have a good set of ceramics that don't dust, and it still stops like no other Sable wagon out there.

I would say if you get a decent set of ceramics for a daily driver, you should be fine.

Hamal, the EBC Yellow are dusty? Gray dust? or yellow?

There were a coupla SHO guys that got them years back when they first came out. Glen Murdock had put a coupla sets on his supercharged Marauder. He was happy with them, but IIRC he had an issue getting them bedded properly (or something like that). Been awhile, I don't remember!

The Yellowstuff do dust, but certainly not as bad as some other pads I've used. I guess the dust is gray; the pads themselves are not yellow. The Yellowstuff might also be a little much for most people on the street... they squeal and are slightly tough on rotors.

Don't get PFCM pads. Yeah, cheap, but that's 80s technology that is barely better than the Motorcraft pads that came on the car (which actually are decent pads).

Pad technology has come a long way since the PFCM.
