The counter bored hole lets you use the reinforcing plate that comes with the recall kit. It appears to me that the plat is there to help distribute the load on across the whole bottom of the bushing, not just right were the head of the bolt is. Granted the AL is tough but it is soft and when you TQ down the bolt, you gall the 10.9 grade SF bolt into the bushing. Could lead to the TQ #'s not being accurate, or possible loosening of the bolt down the line. Whats to say that while driving the forces that the bolt endures dosen't get transfered to the head of the bolt and further gall the AL, making a depression, possibly letting the SFB to drop a little away from the body of the car?SHODWN:
lemme ask a dumb question.
Why the larger counter bore for the washer? ITS AL I would not worry about the bolt.
Plus Mark N. mentioned adding the counterbored hole, to make for an eaiser install, I thought it was a great idea and added it on the very next run. Josh I believe does the same with his bushings.
If you lift up the carpet in passenger footwell it is easier to find. Pull off the trim piece that is held on by one screw, then loosen first screw on the door sill piece. Pull back carpet from front right most corner, then lift up black plastic sound deadining pad that leads up to the firewall.Grifter:
netviper: I called 2 Dealerships and they said it was done, but I checked for those Plugs and I cant find any. How far back do you have to pull the carpet? There isnt any time limit on recalls are there? The last guy at the dealership that I talked to made it sound like my car wasnt involved in the Recall and that it was "over." That's how he made it sound at least.
And I still would like to purchase your Al. SFB's too.
Should look like this when you find it.
