We were waiting for Bruce to get some more SFB's in. In the mean time my son was driving and the subframe broke loose both sides. Called the Ford dealer about SFB recall it was still open car has 124000 mile on it, thought great and had the car towed to the dealer. Now they tell me the subframe is rusted out and needs to be replaced before they can do the SFB's. Ford won't cover the subframe. They found a used subframe and quoted me $940. Need some advice.

LMAO... $940 for a USED subframe? Look for someone local that has one for sale first!

More info

$940 was for the whole job. Install and replace subframe, some broken brackets, throttle linkage, new subframe bushings.

ATX or MTX? I might have an MTX subframe in a few days, I have an ATX one right now that was gonna go to the metal recycler for scrap.

dunno I wouldn't think it would be worth all that much. I haven't seen the car yet and I'm not 100% sure I have it. There are plenty of ppl I know that have parts cars you could get a subframe from that are close to your location.

Definitely try posting a WTB in the appropriate forum. There are enough members in and around MI that you should be able to find someone who will sell you one for much less (we usually sell them for $50 for local folks, and don't know that it would be practical to ship one).

You can also try your local auto parts recyclers (more commonly known as junkyards). I just looked up MTX subframes on http://www.car-part.com in MI, and most are around $200, but there are some that don't list a price and you'd need to call. You want to ask for an "Engine Cradle".

Ditto with the above internet suggestion. There are several internet salvage search bots that can search many salvage yards at once to find a part you need. A great resource when you're in a bind. I wonder what the price breakdown is for the used part in the total they quoted you? Maybe you can get a quote without the subframe included to see if it's worth the extra effort.
