I've noticed that in all the pictures of installed sbc's the forward welding point sits on top of the factory sub frame. Can I machine about 4-6 inches of forward sub frame connector so the remaining portion sits directly on top of the factory sub frame with the sides and rear of the sub frame connector flush on the floor of the car? Will this affect torsion flex or are the sfc's just put in to reducelinear flex? I'm asking because worried about ground clearance with speed bumps and I want to run 245/45/17 tires with 17*7 40mm offset tires. Thanx

Unless you have lower drop upfront than me, which is 2.5", you wont have issue's hitting your subframe. With your 245/45/17 you will have a 25.7" tire diameter(I have 25.4") compared to 26.2" stock which is nothing exremly exaggerated or nothing to worry about unless you plan on flying over speed bumps. Only time I can remember hitting my subframe was when I didnt see a black speed bump(no yellow on it) going about 10-15MPH off a turn, made a nasty scraping sound. Everytime I see a speed bump I tend to go over them diagonally and not straight foward to decrease the hop over it.

Hey Eddie, I have you beat...I've been without my sho for over 2 months!
Sux doesnt it?

Only thing that has kept me from just selling it is having a second car, but I dislike adding extra miles to it :D , 5,400miles total since March when I bought it with 7miles.

Whats wrong with your SHO?

are there any specific specifications for subframe connectors? I have access to a full machine shop and want to fab my own. Does anyone know the dimensions/requirements for such a task?

Ian - I think you could do as you propose, but you'll want to weld to the uni-body rails not to the floorpan. So don't run the sides of the connectors right up to the floor - leave them alittle short.

Like RI-SHO says, clearance shouldn't be a problem. The connectors are only an inch thick, so the frame that supports the engine/tranny is still lower. For me, the resonator is the lowest thing. I need to post a recent picture, but speedbumps are out of the question for my car. Infact, I learned recently that it won't clear a dead squirrel ... but it will corner so hard it'll scare ya.
