Sub frame bushings?

Just wanted to check did our cars have a recall on these bushings. My car has a bit of a wobble and my suspension guy told me that the bushings were loose and worn out in the front subframe bolts. It's a 93 MTX. Has the rare green paint.

Yes, I believe so. I know the '94 did, most likely the '93, just had mine done earlier this year... made a definite improvement in how solid the car felt.

There is a recall on them for the 93. Don't waste time if the recall hasn't expired it may soon. A guy on this forum lost out by 6 months on the spring recall.

Well I called Ford and gave them my VIN number they tell me there are no outstanding recalls!! Anyone know if there are any better aftermarket bushings. Ret before your subframe bushings were done did your car twist when it hit a bump front to back? Mine feels loose all over but everything is new- rack, struts springs, ball joints, tie rods, sway bard links even changed the tires and rims from my tbird which are z rated --everything!

The Ford rep bold faced lied to you! I live in AZ and I had my car a 94 MTX in Germany (lots of salt like Canada). I took it in to the ford dealer here in Tucson an explained that my car was in a winter/salt environment (Germany) and they replaced all 4 bolts spacers and nuts. I would check again.

buechine, yes, it always felt like it had a lot of flex. It still does, that's just something that ya gotta live with with the style chassis they used for these cars, but it was noticeably stiffer after getting the recall done.

Have you owned your car the entire time? it's possible a previous owner had it done allready.

Well, I'm not too sure my next step. I think that I may call another ford dealership and ask them I guess I will clarify that it is in salt conditions but they should know that! I haven't owned this car that long but I did have an 89 before which had some movement but nothing like this. If I drive 85 mph the car wants to wander when I hit small grooves in the pavement. Anyone every changed bushings in the rear suspension control arms? I don't think that the sub frames bushings were replaced because they are pretty much worn out they look terrible. But who knows factory ford replacement parts!!

Had the same experience as you with a Ford dealer here in Alabama. Told me the recall was VIN# specific. Acually it is a Regional specific recall,mainly for Northeastern and Midwestern States and presumably Canada.According to NHTSA "consumers living outside the Region will get a free repair if the problem occurs". May be too late if you loose control of your steeering and bite the dust.

The recall # is98V323000.

I should be covered because I bought the car in NY and operated it in Ottawa for a while. I have had other small rust problems. Try another dealer and bitch,bitch,bitch. Might also want to contact NHTSA. Good Luck

I probably threw it away, but I'll see if I still have the recall notice they sent me in the mail. It had a phone number on it to call if a ford dealer refused to do the recall for you.

Well, I put my car up last night and bought the sub frame bushings from Ford. The front ones were totally shot so I replaced them. The rear ones looked like they were in good shape though and the bolt looked like it had been changed. Anyways after fighting with changing them. It didn't fix the problem. I still have a twisty feeling when I turn in a corner right and hit a dip or something in the road. Any ideas?? Doesn't do it on the left turns. The parts guy at Ford told me that the rear subframe bushings were involved in the recall but not the front. It wasn't too expensive so I don't think that I will push the subject but Thanks for the info.

there is one way to tell if sub frame bushings are worn out. Check the intake manifold.if there are horizontal shiny marks on it then that means it's the bushings. if the marks aren't there it is probably something else.

Oh if your shifting is kinda sloppy or if after you replace the front motor mount to fix movement on the engine you find that the engine still hits the hood thumbs_u
