(On a cold engine) grab the square top of the plug boot, gently pull up as you wiggle the boot left and right (or up and down) and it should pop off if it was origionally installed with dielectric grease as it should have been.

On the rear bank you're supposed to take the intake off. However most of us just go the contorsionist routine and manage to figure something out. I think I use a pair of channel locks gently to get one of them back there. Just try not to damage any of the wire. If you're checking the wells and they are dry, you could check the plugs to see if they are gapped within spec. Don't remove plugs with any moisture in the wells until it is cleaned out.

I have a really long pair of needle nose pliers. The last 1.5" of the jaws are bent 90 degrees and it works perfect for grasping the plugs wires and pulling them out!

if you have oil coming up around your plugs your valve cover gaskets are shot. Its pretty common on SHO's. But the answer to your question is...I pull the intake. I use an electric impact to lossen the runner blots unplug the sensor on the throttle body, and unplug the intake hose and pull the intake right off and out of the way. So I wouls suggest pulling the intake.

I wouldn't advise using any type of plyers to remove your plug wires. You can easily do it with you hand just like the front. I have done mine and the only thing I remove is the vacuum accumulator and vacuum regulator for the secondaries. Its not that hard just use your imagination and don't let the car be smarter than you.
