Ok,for the last couple of days, mine has been puking coolant out of the overflow bottle. But it only does this AFTER it has been shut off for say...5 to 10 minutes...WTF!? It has spit out enough that my low coolant light came on today, but it still does it. It will even do it if I just idle the car for 2 min and then shut it off(when it's warm obviously).

Nearest I can figure, is that maybe the thermostat is *****'d, or do I have a bad cap?

I'm just hoping I don't have an "Internal" problem :banghd:

Do you smell any exhaust fumes or see black particulates in the coolant?

I agree with checking/replacing the radiator cap. If the pressure release spring gets weak, what happens is that as the car is running, it has sufficient seat-pressure to prevent the system pressure from pushing coolant into the overflow bottle.

Once you turn the engine off, engine temperature actually increases for several minutes since the coolant is no longer being circulated but the block is still heat-soaked from running. The "weak" cap then starts allowing coolant to be pushed into the overflow bottle to the point that it overflows. This is why some people use to allow the engine to idle for several minutes before shutting the engine off, after an extended drive, driving the car hard, or towing.

The correct OEM radiator cap for the SHO is the RS-80, rated at 16psi.

No, thankfully...I was worried about that! I've seen that in big trucks before, so I was looking for that. But it's all green lol.

I'm going to try to get a cap today, thanks guys.

I'm going to name this car "a part a week" LOL

You mean my town of three churches, two gas stations, a post office, a Dollar General.. and I think that's about it? I haven't seen much of AL yet; been there once with a buddy. I'm originally from Boston, MA, and you see wayyy more SHO's up there than you do down here. People down here want V6 mustangs and such, which won't move four feet in the snow.

Now that I think about it, it's more like 5 or 6 churches. There are some on the back roads too.

No.

The "original" (I did say correct) OEM radiator cap IS the RS-80, 16 psi.

Does the RS-90 work, . . . yes.

The RS-80 has been discontinued by Ford. Ford is listing the RS-90 as a replacement. The RS-90 Ford OEM part number is F4TZ-8100-B, which is a Ford truck part number, versus the RS-80 that [was] a Taurus part number (E9DZ-8100). Same size, same pressure rating, being used as a superceding part.

LOL...Yeah if you blink, you'll miss it. That's a **** of a switch from Boston :oogle:

Can't say it was my decision to be here, my fiance's family lives in Dayton and she wanted to be with them, but I'm enjoying the south so far. 70 mph speed limits! No rust on cars! No one cares if your windshield looks like someone threw a rock at it. No emissions in the county the SHO is registered in(at my in-laws house ;-p), so I'm strongly considering going catless; the SHO has a hacked up exhaust with the cats already removed from the Y pipe, and a single universal converter in the middle... and only the left side factory muffler for some reason. The no rust makes things a lot easier to work on. I like being able to remove brake lines without twisting them in two...

Interesting history lesson. Hey, no intent to offend, just (maybe too tersely) pointed out that the RS90 is what the Motorcraft catalog specifies for the SHO. Interchange crosses both RS80 and RS90 to E9DZ8100. There are RS80's still around, Rockauto has one closeout available, if anybody yearns for one.
