My 93 has a really strong fuel smell from the area of the fuel filter. I replaced the filter as I think the one that was installed was the original, but the problem persists. It only occurs after driving. It doesn't smell if it's just been sitting.

I've checked the gas fume purge canister and valve and all seem to be fine with no noticeable odor at all. And there's no sign of liquid fuel anywhere that I've been able to check.

Do the o-rings in the fuel filter quick connect boots wear over time? I checked the cost of replacements boots at AZ and they were like $18.00 a piece with a bit of the plastic hose attached. But I really don't want to screw with it again before I have some feedback.

Thanks in advance.

this reminds me of a time when i worked at an auto parts store and a guy came in asking what to do if your gas tank smells like gas...

your question is a bit more valid though.....

it may sound silly, but is any gas leaking out?... leave cardboard under the car so it doesnt evaporate as quickly

There is no evidence of liquid at all. This isn't an entirely new issue as it's been going on for about a month now, so I've had some time to evaluate the problem. I've been traveling and haven't driven that much, but when I do drive it I just can't help but think about the Space Shuttle Challenger!
