I got into my donor car yesterday and got down to the head level. I would have had the heads out, but I had two of the head bolts round out on me. :scared:

Does anyone know of a tool that would slip over the reeded edges of these bolts? I thought about going up a size (10mm hex is what it is) and pounding it in with a hammer. I wanted to remove the heads assembled, but those cams make it hard to get to some of the bolts.

Suggestions?

the last time i had one i went an d bought a cheap set of sockets, found one that fit the tightest with persaution of hammer then took my wire feed welder and welded the inside of the socket to the bolt head... then used socket wrench to take it out.

Got 'em out! They were only partially rounded out. The reason was that the body of the 10mm hex socket was leaning on the cam shaft slightly. What I did was:

1. Pull the hex part out of the 10mm hex socket
2. Hammer the T-handle on my 10mm T-handle hex wrench down the shaft of the wrench
3. Hammer the empty hex socket on the top of the T-handle

This gave me a 10mm socket with 4 inches of reach - enough to stand it up straight past the cams. The T-handle is still on my 10mm... just under the socket. This will come in handy with reinstallation!

normally what i did was get a 10 mm allen key, cut the long end off, put a socket there and worked perfect.

just in the future make sure your all the way in the slot before you give it the business

I have a 10mm allen wrench that I hacked the 90 degree end off. This leaves you with a strait 10mm allen head. I then use a 1/2 inch drive 6 point socket over the allen. Plenty of room for the cams this way.
